Re: 1956 Chevy Pro-Street Build
I just went back in your build. I forgot you where running an electric water pump. What is your reason for electric? I have seen very few street vehicles run electric. Also is it working properly: Speed, direction ect. Engine Masters show did a test with accessories and found, electric water pump vs normal water pump used only just over 5hp at the top rpm range. All together with an alternator with a load 11hp. Just trying to help.

Re: 1956 Chevy Pro-Street Build
Possible running lean? does it run hot running down the road? If so maybe open up the fan shroud with some flaps for more airflow at speed.

Re: 1956 Chevy Pro-Street Build
One other thing Ive learned over the years-The water needs to spend enough time in the radiator to actually exchange the heat. If youre running it through too fast (electric pump) and arent throttling it back enough (thermostat) it just cant rid itself of enough heat. Try a 185 or 190* stat and check and see if your electric pump is high volume.

I asked my brother (GM mechanic) about it and he said almost the same thing.

Re: 1956 Chevy Pro-Street Build
Hi Guys - just checking into everyones stuff on here and seeing lots of new stuff!!! My junk is running pretty well - got the heat problem figured out, apparently wasnt a heat problem at all it was the placement of the sending unit. I have a VIC series manifold and had the sender in the rear port near cyl#8. I guess these manifolds are notorious for getting steam pockets in the rear areas and this was the problem.
Moved the sender to the block port right under the stat housing and its 185* all day long. Also have replaced the ebay alternator already... junk! no warranty either. The other day the wife and I tried to go to breakfast in it before driving out to the "Stuck in Lodi" car show and the supercharger decided to blow the pipe off to the carb!!! - heard a loud noise and thought - is an airplane landing above me???? no it was the SC blowing air everywhere! Im guessing the little vac line to the Mondo valve came off, closed the valve down and blocked the pipe and the SC wasnt gonna have none of that once I pedalled it... But its better to blow a $50 pipe then a $3000 head unit on the SC. The other thing is we took a picture of the grand-daughter back when I started the truck. Some of you may remember this: And now we just took another one and shes almost ready to turn 4 years old.

Re: 1956 Chevy Pro-Street Build
Hey Everybody --- Just a quick note on this truck ---
It is FOR SALE - most likely less engine - if you have your own engine to put in it. The 540 has a blow-by issue right now that is undiagnosed, but best I can tell without a complete tear down, there is probably one or two cracked rings. Still runs like a raped ape crazy ex-wife, but it smokes through the breathers at idle, and the exhaust on hard accel. I just don't have the coin to keep working this project, and I've just moved on to other things in my life at this point. Id like to see this truck go to a good home with somebody that wants to keep working it. It is about 95% complete, still needs a little this and a little of that, but its almost there. I don't believe in letting things rot away until "someday" comes.... Less the engine I have more than $40K into this build in parts pieces and machine work. - I'd be willing to let it go for $30K (less engine) which I know I couldn't built it today for that amount. It would include the TH400 trans which would be ready to drop in any type of BBC engine block setup. The motor mounts and driveline are all fitted to that combination, balanced and proven to run well. It is also setup for electric fans, the cross flow radiator, CDI Ignition, Custom exhaust headers (over the frame) and I have the electric cutouts wired and ready to be installed for this application also. The entire drivetrain has been built to handle 1000HP, so it should handle anything you want to throw at it from a crate motor standpoint. A nice new 572 from Summit would drop right in. The entire build is on this page - If there is any interest - drop me an email at: hrly_man @ yahoo.com (no spaces) to exchange phone numbers.

Sorry about the sale. I've really enjoyed following your build. Do you have any updated pictures of where it currently stands? I think most of the pics were lost

There is an ad in the FOR SALE forum http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...00#post8591100 with some of the latest pics of where its at today. Its still a runner for now. The engine will be coming out and going back to TN for a warranty claim that will last forever Im sure, but not a a rebuild. So the truck is for sale without the engine. This truck has a lot to offer somebody that wants to do the finishing touches and complete the final build out. Its built with good products, its road proven, it will handle anything street worthy (or race worthy) and its priced well below what anybody could build it for at this point.

Sorry you have to sell it PTC. Sometimes life gets in the way bad.
I’m sure you’ll find the right buyer and finish it the way it should be finished!

Re: 1956 Chevy Pro-Street Build
gorgeous truck man, worth every penny. if you were closer I would take you out for a beer and tell you to think on it a while, but I get where you are at. sometimes you just want to drive and have a physical end to the build process.

Re: 1956 Chevy Pro-Street Build
No life issues here guys, just going a different direction 'in life'... I have been blessed well in being able to pull off this build with everything and everyone that has been a part of it. It's truly been a labor of love that God has allowed me to complete and has been my mentor all along the way.
The costs involved with going through the motor issues again have just made me look at things differently and with our family and grandkids growing up now, I just want to be a part of their lives more now than I have been in the past. I haven't stopped building... things, but that's for another build page. So thanks to everyone that has taken part in this build with me and offered up so many great ideas and wisdom in putting it all together, it has helped greatly. I hope somebody finds there way here and sees their own 'dream' to complete, as I once did when I put pen to paper and started this project. Tell a Friend! Thanks
