Quality Seat Belts

I am finishing up a 1963 GMC build for my daughter. I want to learn from some of you’re experiences. The wife is wanting seat belts with a shoulder strap installed.

Can I get some pros & cons on the aftermarket seatbelts available ? I am more into Quality than price. Is the mounting of the shoulder strap solid even though it is just a drilled hole in the cab ?

Re: Quality Seat Belts

The aftermarket 3-point seat belt conversion kits are a good idea. Be sure to use all of the backing hardware (the hardware that mounts to the rear of the panels) during the installation - the back side of the floor mounts and the B-pillar shoulder harness mount.

Re: Quality Seat Belts

I am about to order 2 shoulder belts and a middle lap belt for my 65 from www.seatbeltsplus.com. They are $225 and about $70 cheaper than other sites I have looked at.

What buckle length are you getting and do you have a bench seat?

I do have a bench seat. 20" no sleeve buckle. I am afraid the 12" sleeved buckle wouldn't be long enough.

Re: Quality Seat Belts

I think a collapsible steering shaft should be considered before the seat belt mod. In my other old car I won't put on the lap belt because the steering shaft has not yet been modified and in a front end collision, behind the wheel is not the place to be. I had an acquaintance who is not here today as a result of it.

An alternative to the 3 point harness is to change to a newer seat that has the belts built in.

Any pictures or other info on who you bought them from on ebay? I looked and mostly saw belts made in China... do you remember the length of your belt and buckle? Thanks

Unfortunately, almost all of the webbing material comes out of China, which is why some of the long-time racing safety equipment makers like Simpson no longer re-certify their belts and offer discounts on new replacements. I do some custom stuff for a few customers on OE type belt replacements through DJ Safety/Deist Safety, where they still have a large stock of webbing that was made in the US for some of these period-correct restoration orders.

This is one I did for a 69 Pontiac Firebird.

50-year old originals left; new webbing right:

Any chance I can see your mount points and how well the receiver end reaches up through the seat?

I found them for sale on eBay and just may pull the trigger on some if they appear to be a good fit.

I need to install some in my 62 SWB C10.

Thanks

Re: Quality Seat Belts

Here you go. The retractable part is bolted between the seat and floor and the receiver part is bolted to the seat. The seats are off of a Land Rover and came with the receiver attached. Hope this helps

Here are the specific links to seat belts in the FAQ...scroll down a little.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...55&postcount=4

Also, you would need a hardware kit from wherever you buy your seat belts. Something like this...

https://www.seatbeltsplus.com/PROD.h...ode=FHD-1046-1

Lastly, the best install thread I found was from LugNutz on this board. His website on the install is here...
