1966 C10 292 to 350 - Cooling Fan and Coil Mount

For those of you that have done the swap, did you re-use the cooling fan spacer off of the I6? I have the perches in the factory location, but haven't located a factory shroud yet so don't know how far forward the fan needs to set.

Also...where did you end up mounting the coil? I am running the Edelbrock Performer EPS Intake Manifolds 2701. Anybody mount directly to the manifold?

Thanks!

Re: 1966 C10 292 to 350 - Cooling Fan and Coil Mount

I have all the stuff that came with the donor 79, so long water pump and HEI ignition with the coil in the cap. I don't have a shroud yet either so now the fan sits out there waiting for me to forget it is there. As far as I know with an original shroud you need a short water pump but just guessing on that. Good question, where to find a shroud?

Whether you need the same fan spacer as what was on the I6 depends on whether your small block has the correct short water pump or the later model long water pump.

Yes the coil can be mounted to the rear of the intake manifold, providing you have the correct mounting bracket to do so.

Reproduction fan shrouds can be found at most of the big name aftermarket truck parts suppliers.

Re: 1966 C10 292 to 350 - Cooling Fan and Coil Mount

By happenstance, I found a coil bracket in the spare parts box off a 71 Blazer that bolts to the Edlebrock perfectly. It's a little close to the hold down nub on the distributor cap, but it should work.

I have the short water pump, but it doesn't look like the 292 Fan spacer will work unless I use the 4 blade fan off the 292. I wanted to use the GM OEM Fixed 5 blade clutch fan off a later model (1980?) Blazer my buddy donated to me and while the pulley and fan will bolt to the pump, the spacer is the wrong bolt pattern. He's donating his OEM 65 C10 shroud as well, so I'll have to decide what fan to use when the shroud is installed.

They make fan spacers that are universal fit like this example.
Shop around.
There are cheaper ones.
