stepside fender
Is the long bed fender the same as a short bed fender?

Except for the tire carrier ones. The long stepside fender is different from the short one, which has a bigger cut-out for the tire mount. On the longer stepside, there's more room over the step, so less is cut out of the fender.

And, I have discovered, finding the LWB fender w/ cut-out is much harder than finding the SWB, no doubt a function of production numbers.

They ARE different! The longbed fenders are longer. A buddy of mine bought some to replace his rusty shortbed fenders, and nothing matched up. They almost touched the rear stake pocket, and the front side pushed the step panel about an inch forward.

Having no experience with the longstep chassis, I can only take your word for it.
I only observed that the spare tire cut-outs were different. GM tended toward uniformity in parts. Could be it's the same stamped fender, but with different spacing for mounting holes. If it is longer, I'd be surprised.

Short, long and even 9ft stepsides all use the same rear fenders and all will bolt right up. Aside from the spare tire cutouts like mentioned.

LMC Truck and many other vendors list one number for right side and one number for left side stepside rear fenders.....
Perhaps the person with the "longer fenders" had a later model set...I see LMC lists a different number for 73 on rear fenders....

This can be a Good thread for (documentation) on step-side fenders.
The step-side fenders on my 67 8 foot long wood floor bed The measurement is 61" on the back side of the fender from trim line to trim line. I can post pictures if needed. .

I can't see how the fender could be longer on them. The wheel area on the trucks would be the same size just longer in front and back. All the guys cutting the frames never have mentioned having to cut up the fenders. Think about it the wheel opening has to be the same.
I agree the 73 up's may be different though.

73 - 87 rear stepside fenders are totally different from 67-72 rear stepside fenders...
All parts suppliers I looked up did not list a different fender for short box against long box....regardless of which year range.
