Question Roll in Bed liners?

I bought a gallon of this stuff called Herculiner from Napa. Its suposed to be a kit with a roller etc. However it was incomplete so the sold me just the can for 35.00. What type of roller should I use? Also anyone used this stuff with good or bad results? Thanks.

Hey Viper,
Rolled this stuff in about 2 months ago and it looked great and has held up well so far, bought a gallon and applied 2 coats, it came with a thick nap foam roller. (TIP: if you use a brush for corners and tight spots, dab it in, don't brush it. brushing will cause you to have clumps of the rubber particles in spots, dabbing it keeps it consistent.) Hope this helps

I will be using the stuff for inside, and underneath the cab to make sure it stays in one piece for more than a few years. It will also make it really quiet at 75 on the freeway.

BADA$$69 is correct. I was at Wally-world today and saw both the material and the roller in a kit, and the roller sold separately. I think it was $6 or so. However, it was unimpressive... it looked like your standard thick-nap paint roller, only half as wide. Seems like a trip to the paint department would get you what you need for a lot less $$.

Let us know how it goes.

Yep it's just a thick nap roller, in fact in the directions they tell you the specs on which to buy if you booger one up or just need more. I've got Herc in my '85 Blazer instead of carpet and I wouldn't count on it doing much sound deadening.

I bought a spray gun for $50 for the Dupli-color stuff. A few friends will help me split the cost, one of whom has a whopper of a compressor, the other has a soda blasting company, so we can blast out the rust. We hope to start in a week or so.

The Dupli-color has a rebate and is down to around $65 a gallon.

If anyone has any tips, I'm all ears.

I used it for the cab floor, door panels, glove box, bed caps and tail gate. It looks great but chips easy.

Well, I bought a roller from the hardware store. I am not to impressed with this product. It just didnt seem to cover very well. And seems thin. I gallon barely did the bed and gate. I have not thrown anything in there to see how well it bonds. My bed floor was all in prime, so it may cover up better with paint. It seems more like that rubber undercoating then bed liner.

i bought a similar product and was not impressed. it was difficult to apply, it has many chips in it from light duty hauling and it has faded considerably. i wish i would have never done it. but if you are dead set on doing it. here are a few tips.

make sure you mask straight lines if you are going to apply onto the bed rails as well. i didnt do a very good job and i have a crooked edge on my bed rail and it drives me nutz. also apply the liner in good light. probably not outside either . but in a wel lit garage. get ALL the rust off. if there is any left over....use it. you want as many coats as you can get. the instructions say to use only 2 coats. if i could do it over again i would use 10. the thicker this stuff is the longer it lasts. and lastly be patient. make sure all areas are covered. i missed alot of spots by not paying attention and i eventually had to buy a bed mat because my mistakes drove me nuts.

if you use a roller and are painting the bed rails, go very slow with the roller. if you go fast and furious like i did you will end up with many herculiner specs on the bed sides. very sh**** looking.

if i could do it over again i would have just saved and gotten linex. but if you take your time and paint on multiple coats you may be happy with what turns out. good luck.
