Front differential break in?
I just had to replace the AWD drive front differential on my 2012 Yukon xl Denali. I bought it used about a year ago and when I went to change fluids I'd noticed it was metallic, still smelled of GM grape fluid and fair amount of shavings. There was a whine that was getting worse.
I have a brand new unit, not really sure if leftover stock from gm or just built from completely new parts. Told the guy I didn't care, wanted what was better... should be the exact same. I thought i had read somewhere, or maybe YouTube video, about no one drains fluid after break in off 20-30,000 miles, which is why they tend to fail. Being there were lots of shavings and the original gm fluid, doubtful it had been changed in its 86000 life. The supplier offers a 2yr warranty, I had the dealer install but I supplied the part to them. I also filled with BG products fluid as BG Products will warranty it for life as long as I change with their fluid every 30,000 up to $2000. My question is should I drain it prior too 30,000 miles and refill or is that soon enough? I know that no one does this, but I'm trying to make it last and that's cheap warranty IMO. |
