This year will be my 51 consecutive year....Average age is 65 & older....not to many uppity people in that age group...besides you know they have no interest in anything old & rusted......

There has been a Hershey vs Carlisle thing going on ever since Carlisle got started. It reminds me of the Aspen vs Crested Butte thing. I see the pluses and minuses of both and it seems most people do, and can enjoy both. Both very great events and both quite different. They come together in many ways, mostly the swap meet.

I sell stuff there, but very limited on space. I mostly do old toys with a stand out part or two for the 67-72s. My friend does Cushmans, misc. I don't see a lot in those year vehicles there. Woody's may be the only reproduction parts vendor there.

Agreed both are actually good, but Hershey has been my mecca for over 50 years....Life without Hershey is like life without a 67-72 Chevy/GMC truck...and we all know how serious that can be.....

A friend will be showing his '72 Cheyenne Super Custom Camper/20 he just got finished up restoring. His dad bought it new.
Don has an auto upholstery shop his dad started and now his son is pretty much running. In fact, when I stopped by a few weeks ago, Ron's son was working there! I started dealing with them when the dad ran it and both Don and I were young boppers. The truck is Ochre & White same as the '71 Cheyenne Custom Camper/20 I had for 18 years. So once I got that truck ('88) we really became connected. Mine was always nicer. I'm glad I don't have it any longer to compare! His truck is stunning.

Unless I spot it before hand, won't be attending the car show on Saturday...I can barely do the car corral.... Its just to hard to see everything in the flea market....At last count (that's what I read) if you walked every row it would be 25 miles....

I am new to PA, and this part of the country in general. I live on the border of harrisburg, hummestown, and hershey area. I will be attending Hershey, but not as a vendor. Will be my first time. I also plan to attend the swap meet / flea market in carlisle this coming weekend.

Attending event since 1980,have been selling in the car corral for the last 15.Met a lot of interesting people and made a few friends across the pond.If it is your first time you will for sure enjoy yourself.

Hey LagunaGlide, welcome to the Mid-Atlantic/Central PA. Be prepared to do some walking at both. I don't know what your wheeled interests involve, but there are many good things going on in the area throughout 'most' of the year.

Thursdays and Fridays are the best at both. Saturday at Hershey is largely about the car show for spectators and club members. Carlisle starts falling apart later on Friday. Many vendors pack out Sat AM. I don't get it. It's like they set up just to leave. Makes it bad for vendors willing to stay the show and bad for weekend attendees.

Tim is right . I dont get it that vendors are leaving Saturday mid morning . I pack up Saturday night . I dont have a lot to sell but Saturday is still busy. Guess some of these guys do it for a living or retirement supplement and are off to the next show.

My prior comment about the people wasnt directed at the attendees. More about the people who run it and some of the people that show cars.

Thanks for the welcome I am looking forward to both. I attended Good Guys in York, and had a decent time. Luckily for me Thursday and Friday will be the days I can easily attend at both. I have joined a couple facebook groups to try and keep up to date on what is going on near me. Hopefully in time I will have a few contacts who can keep me in the loop.

Leaving on Saturday?? It starts emptying out on Friday, and if there's a sprinkle Thursday afternoon.....I'm on the field Tuesday morning, hoping to get a good week in by Thursday evening....I don't get it either, all the expense & effort to set up only to leave early....But on the other hand by Thursday night all the buyers are done, & Friday its very crowded, with mainly people walking around aimlessly....

I do well on Fridays. Saturdays, too, but it is mostly strollers. There is a short time on Saturday that gets busy but by noon it stops. I usually start packing Saturday afternoon. It's true the most serious buyers come earlier, but not only. I just figure for all the effort why not stay? There is time to travel and set up the next show. Traditionally Saturday evening was always it for any weekend event. Forget Sunday.

I can't wait. The worst part is once they are over it's pretty much the end of the season. We used to have a great one last week of October called Jalopyrama, but it moved to the Eastern Shore of MD and is now the same weekend as Spring Carlisle. So that's it for me and that show. It was a favorite

I remember late 60ies early 70ies it was Friday-Sunday....How times have changed....But it was the hay day for 67-72 Chevy trucks !

My first Carlisle was in 73 . My dad ,uncle and I slept two nights in my uncle's 72 CST Blazer. Hugger orange with highlander option. White vinyl with orange and white plaid inserts . My cousin still owns it but hes one of those " Oh I'll get around to restoring it someday"

Back then I was hunting parts for '40s and '50s vehicles. Most parts were still available from the dealership for these trucks. And plenty of parts in junk yards as well as parts trucks to buy or haul off for free. Them was the good old days!

Tim, I saw your friends truck in the show and got a pic, the only 67-72 in the show that I saw. It's a beauty!

This was my second visit to Hershey since it's a far drive for me, but my wife came with me this time since she likes to see Packards, etc. and the old classics (a buddy and I went to Carlisle last year and had a good time as well). Concerning the swap meet thing, the vendors definitely started packing up on Friday even though the weather was great and about 90% of them were gone on Saturday (still great weather). I would think that Saturday would be well attended since most people are off work and the vendors would do well if they stayed, so it's hard to figure.

Not in the car corral but in the parking lot...this silver Suburban had a lot going for it...I parked next to it so that to avoid dings on his Chev & mine ! Tuesday is usually set up day, but it was in full swing...Looks like next year, my week will start on Monday.... Most buyers are spent by Thursday, so Friday is the big exodus .....Great time...Great show....my 51st year .....

That's cool you got to see his truck. That's my upholstery guy from way way back. I ended up not going at all. My friend I go with only went for Wed to walk the swap meet, not set up. I could have had it all. We hadn't communicated, plus I was good and ready (overdue) to head to the mountains to see my mom. They had their Autumn Glory Festival up there I always miss, same week as Hershey. But I had what was left of a cold I picked up at Carlisle, so didn't want to take my germs to my mom. Just hacked away at work around here like I have since mid-summer. Great weather!
