Cheyenne Tailgate Trim Question

Sorry, I tried to search threads but it only confused me. I have a 72' K10 Cheyenne with options Z84, BX2 and B85 on the build sheet. My restorer is working on my truck in Sacramento. He said the tailgate trim that spells the words "Chevrolet" looks black and not wood grain. I am certain it is the original trim piece. Is it possible that it was black from the factory; maybe it was wood grain and then faded dark over the past several decades? I will post pictures.

Original’s only came in wood grain
On cst, Cheyenne and Cheyenne Super
Any black ones are a repop
Or have been painted. And not factory

Ok maybe she painted it since my truck is med bronze metallic. I will ask her. Thanks!!

My Cheyenne super is all original & it is wood grain.

My 72 K10 Cheyenne originally came with wood grain as that is all GM offered. Lucked out and found a NOS one for mine a few years ago. The truck is also med. bronze.

Z84 (CST or Cheyenne) and YE9 (Cheyenne Super) would have had woodgrain tailgate band. In fact, GM didn't make a black tailgate band - any trim level below Z84 had painted debossed CHEVROLET letters on the tailgate. Black band w/chrome letters is aftermarket only. GM did make black banded side trim for lower trim levels, but not a black tailgate band.
