Lower A-arm shaft help.

Hi guys,

I may have installed my lower a-arm shaft wrong. Instead of having the dimple towards the front, I had installed it toward the back. I know that the dimple should line up with the stud on the crossmember, but he rear u-bolt mount has the stud also. I know that the caps on the end should be 1 1/4" from the edge of the a-arm, but does it matter which side the dimple is on?

My second question is how much play does the shaft have when it is torqued down? I installed mine and it doesn't rotate freely. I don't remember how it was when I removed them last year.

tia,
Jay

Hmmmmm, don't think my rear mount had a stud. If both front and rear have studs and the shaft only has one dimple, how would it sit flush in the mounts?? If I remember ocrrectly, the rear stud is "flattened" to allow the shaft to sit in the mount correctly.

Regarding how much play, do you mean between the shaft and the mounts or how easily should the a-arm rotate on the shaft? There should be no play between the shaft and the mounts once it's torqued down. My a-arm shafts were a little snug when I tried to rotate them by hand with the a-arms off the truck. Once they were installed on the truck and with the added weght of the rotors, spindles, etc, the moved easily.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for answering my question. I meant exactly what you answered. It seemed kind of tight to me when I rotate the shaft. I guess the weight of everything else will make it looser. I'll double check the stud again to see which side it needs to go.

thanks again,
Jay

Ya, the dimple sorta locates the arm to the right position forward and aft. If it's off, then you can't get a proper alinement
