Utility box removal
Hi everyone. I'm looking at buying an 84 C20, with a utility box with liftgate, and if I get it, want to replace it with a standard longbed. ( I don't want a short bed). I ve looked on YouTube, and did Google searches but can't find out how to do it except on new trucks. Can anyone help me with this?
TIA |

Re: Utility box removal
I have seen them mounted with the just the outer four stock location bolts and the factor 8 bolt holes. More than likely it uses the front 2 bed mounts and the 2 rearward ones. That is the setup I have seen most. Once they are off, disconnect the fuel filler tube and the wiring for lights, then it just lifts off like a factor fleetside bed.

Re: Utility box removal
Thanks. I should be able to drop a long bed on in place of it, right?

Re: Utility box removal
Depends on if its a cab and chassis or a regular pickup frame. A regular pickup bed on a cab and chassis will end up with a couple inch gap between the cab and bed.

Re: Utility box removal
Is there a way of telling by looking at it, or only if I remove the utility box?

Re: Utility box removal
Should be able to look at the VIN to determine if it was sold as a pickup or cab and chassis. I don't know the digit or code to look for though.

Re: Utility box removal
IIRC it is 56" from the back of the cab to the center of the axle on a regular pickup and 60" on a C & C.
