Eaton Trutrac - Pinion Depth
I’m working on installing an Eaton Truetrac limited slip. I am using the original 3.73 ring gear and pinion. When setting pinion depth, should it be real close using the existing shim that was on the OE install? Wondering how much I’ll have to play with that. I’m reading that even using a setup bearing, even of the same brand, it could be off. Looking to see other’s experience using existing gears.

The differential case shouldn't make a difference on the pinion depth. If using the same gears - use the same pinion shim

Thanks, during mock up, pinion preload isn’t needed right? Just need to seat the pinion firmly against the gear? No crush sleeve at that point during set up?

If using the old gears, use the same shim and go ahead and install the crush sleeve to specs. All that is needed is backlash set by the new side gear shims. Call it done
