1987 V20, are the colors (black, and gold bowtie) matte, gloss, or somewhere in between? Mine are to far gone to tell.

I don't believe gloss is right, the gold is Ochre Ditzler 2323, and the black is similar to the black on the side moldings. Just my humble opinion.

I used VHT Black Satin Epoxy on the ones I've done.

One warning (it's in the instructions as well...), follow the re-coating timeline if you use it. If you add delayed additional coats too early, the fresh coat can cause a reaction w/the previous coat. Other than that, I like the stuff. It has a very consistent 'sheen'.

It's not the best quality pic but the cap on the left is OE; the right one was repainted.

I used a circle cardboard template for the center & just masked the edges.
For the raised portion of the caps, I don't tape to a paint line. I just tape to keep the bulk mass from getting overspray. As I did each coat, I would take a shop towel (I like use an old worn-out t-shirt for stuff like this), pull it tightly to my finger-tip, dip it in reducer, & carefully wipe the edge where the 'color' should stop.

You can do the clean-up @ the end of the final coat or after it's completely dried. I do it between coats because it's much easier to get the overspray off vs. once it's sat overnight.

Interesting. I considered using liquid masking tape....I may hand-paint the bowtie (going to change it to blue, similar to the early 60's 'caps).
