I'm searching for a truck as we speak, but have run into a problem. I have (well, had) a pretty good idea of what direction I wanted to go with this build. Basically, bags, nice interior, creature comforts, patina exterior. Then my wife, who has never really had an opinion on my old cars, told me she hates low trucks. She'd rather me go up than down. I was flabbergasted! However, it does open the door to more trucks. Now I can look at C20's, K10's, and K20s. I was trying to avoid leaf springs if I was going to bag it. We won't ever go wheeling in it, but will probably need to tow a smallish trailer at some point. I fully plan on using the truck, well, like a truck. Crap will be thrown in the back of it. So this begs the question, what do I do now?

Oh God, I have so many questions for you. Do you have a build thread? I see you have a 2500, but 5 lug. What all needs to be replaced to do that? (spindles, control arms, etc?) I'm trying to research what is interchangeable and from what years, but not having a lot of luck. Square body stuff is plentiful and cheap in yards around here, so I'm hoping I can go that route.

There is a Parts Interchange Manual by Paul A Herd that I have found interesting and helpful from time to time. It covers 1967-1978. Saw one used on Amazon for $7. Google it. Hope this will help you.

One of the great things about the 67 to 72 is they have such great bones (Style) to begin with just about any configuration can look good if it’s executed well. Might be fun to just sit down with your wife and go through a myriad of various configurations ( originals, stock restorations, restomods, etc.) to land on something you both like. Sounds a fun problem to have.......

I can tell you that the whole front cross member and steering box from a '73 - '87 is pretty much a direct bolt in, and the rear is an axle swap from 6 bolt to 5 bolt axles.

There are a couple of caveats on that depending on the year of truck you end up getting but it is pretty straight forward and there are plenty of threads on here about it.

As the saying goes "Happy wife equals happy life.".
The money you save on bags and 20" wheels will go a long ways towards modern A/C, seats, drive train updates, etc.
Count your blessings that she likes an old vehicle around. Most don't.
I would show her around the board and get her opinion on different trucks and get her involved in choices that interest her. Learn how she defines "low trucks". The last thing you want is something that annoys her every time she see's it in the driveway. I'm sure none of this is news to you but just in case.

You can never go wrong with a nicely optioned K20 or even K10 for that matter.

I've never had a lifted truck, so if nothing else that would be a new experience. But I can't imagine having a mall crawler either. Come to think about it, I've never had a lowered truck either. However, I've built several for friends. Anyone remember the mini truck craze of the 90s? That's kinda where I cut my teeth. I've also had 30-40 old cars in my life. I have a habit.

My wife didn’t like my truck at all. I have a 1970 K10 that was 3 different colors when we met. And it didn’t run either. Still doesn’t look pretty. She has an eye for housing remodels and house painting, but just doesn’t have it with these trucks. She hated it...said she doesn’t like these older trucks. One day we were watching Barrett Jackson and a K10 came across. It was really nice. She said “that’s a nice truck.” I said “ that’s the same as mine! Same body style, 4WD, the only difference is that it’s done!” She said “well, if yours was like that, I would like it!”

Show her some picks or YouTube videos of what you want. She may change her mind. Good luck with whatever direction you go.

If you go with an air ride system you could cruise the day away down low, and when you roll into your neighborhood kick it back up to a height she likes.

Those are my thoughts, too. It's nice when they like what you want, but I save keeping her happy for doing the things she likes and wants for herself whether I like or want it or not. I expect the same in return

Well, I tried to buy a truck today, but the dude stood me up. I'm amazed at how many people will advertise something for sale, but seem to have no interest in actually selling it. I found another one that I like quite a bit, but it's 4 hours away. Is anyone here in Denver, and have nothing to do next Sunday?

This stance is just about perfect IMO. Thanks for posting this. Here's another question for the class. Did 1970 C10's all have coil rears, or did some come with leafs? Is the crossmember in place to go to coil rear?

They could have either coil or leaf. Coil is most common on Chevys and the reverse for GMC. Crossmember is specific to coil.

I don't get that either, with sellers who fail to keep a commitment to show their vehicle. I picture the used car guy in a checkered jacket hollering on his TV ad to come on down for a great deal. Then, every time you go on down there the place is closed.

The one I'm looking at now looks entirely original. I can't tell from the pics, but I believe it has leaf rears. I'll ask him later today. That's not a deal breaker though. Hopefully I can strike a deal today, and pick it up on Sunday. The seller thinks I'm crazy for planning on driving it 250 miles home. Maybe I'll make my own little roadkill episode.
