There is no right are wrong answer here. Both ways are great and both have the same results.
I have a 71 C-10 with 6.0 LS and 4L80E over drive in it with 4:10 gears. I love that truck and it has made some long trips and when I stop to get gas are bathroom it starts right back up and is ready to go. @ 18MPG @80MPH with the AC on I doubt anybody's 396 or 454 will do that. But then again a BB isn't for cruising but for pulling and short trips. So depending on what you are going to do with it, is the bigger question. Decide what your goal is for the use of it and then you will know what to do. Now with that said. I have my 67 Ramp truck that has the old 2 barrel with 350 with granny 4 speed still in it. It may get 10MPG if that. To be honest I never have checked it. I have driven it one time on a 5 hr drive and it did fine. I don't drive it because of MPG. I drive it because I love to drive it. My daughters 68 step I'm building now is a 350 with 4 barrel with a 700R4 and it may get a sniper later on but for now it's just old school carburator. It's your truck, you need to decide what you like and want. Good luck with it and have some fun with it. ![]()

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs. Last edited by Andy4639; 11-28-2019 at 08:47 AM. |

Re: 69 396 vs lm7 CST build
I have a non-original 396 in a 72 k10 longbed. I love it. I love old trucks and old cars how they were. I have a new truck with a 6.0 LS, it is great. I like LS engines in new trucks and big blocks, small blocks, stovebolts, etc. in old trucks. With a carburetor!

Re: 69 396 vs lm7 CST build
No replacement for displacement. Build the big block. Have you checked the block numbers to see if it is the original year engine for the truck? If so, add a 454 crank for a little more fun. If not, add the whole 454 for even more fun...

Re: 69 396 vs lm7 CST build
Will reply to everyone sometime this weekend. Been busy with work, life and the flu. Got the frame cleaned up a bit more and also used the easy off method to peel back some paint. Appears as though it's been painted at some point? Unless it's just faded? But theres clearly another layer where the trim was
