72 Big Block Heater Hose Question
I am replacing the heater hoses on my c20 and I am wondering if there is a 5/8"molded heater hose available that will somewhat fit the area marked in yellow.
If not does anyone have pictures of their heater hose setup on a factory big block truck? I am also having a hard time figuring out how to route the 3/4" hose that runs from the radiator to the core on the firewall. It does not want to bend sharply enough to clear the A/C compressor pulley. |

Both of mine run under the ac compressor. The intake has a 45 Degree heater hose intake fitting that helps get the angle to make it work

I have a straight fitting, but both of my heater hoses go like DA71Grande says, under the AC compressor. There is a fat wire bracket that keeps the hoses back from the belts and pulley. The fitting on mine comes out of the intake manifold just to the passenger's side of the bypass hose. Mine is, I believe, the original '70 402 Cu In engine intake manifold.

Get a straight fitting, then you can get a hose with a 90 bend in it. NAPA has them in various lengths and diameters

I picked up a 90 degree fitting. I'll run it under the AC compressor like you guys. Thanks for the help.
My other problem is that my 3/4 heater hose does not run to the water pump. It goes directly into the radiator tank. Theres not much clearance between where the hose comes out and the AC compressor. Curious to see other pics of this setup to see how people have ran this hose In the picture the AC compressor is pushed all the way up against the valve cover and that is all of the clearance I have. If I put a belt on it and tension it the pulley will definitely rub the hose. Plus it wants to kink. Im thinking of just finding a 45 degree molded hose to shoot it away from the ac compressor and using a double sided barb to connect it to the piece that will go to the heater core. I suspect that a different radiator has been put in your truck. My 3/4" hose comes off the side of the water pump, just above the water pump's gozinta hose. I think that the later model trucks may have had that hose come out of the radiator (like Cadillacs do), but in '70, at least on mine, it doesn't.
Looking back at post one, I see that that is not a stock intake, so I'll have to say that I'll just bow out of the discussion, after all this.

Ended up just going to NAPA and browsing the wall of hoses. Found this hose that has one 90 degree bend in it and the rest is straight. It has enough length to make it all the way to the heater core and does not kink. Trimmed a little off the end with the 90 and it gave me some additional clearance.
