Re: You promised yourself no more projects, but ...

When I got rid of all but the two '67-'72s I did tell myself "I am good on '67-'72s. If there are others they will be older ones I love". Well, been stuck on these trucks since my first in '73 and they are just too deep in my blood. I'd still like to build a killer 4wd using the 1t axles I have, '71 350, and 4spd/NP205 I have sitting around. I have a cab light cab for my '72 K2500 as well as cherry fenders, hood, core support, and grille. I'd like to find a '73-'87 chassis to build it on, use the cast-off cab and front end, and build a bed like a military style trailer. I'd also like to find a wide bed 3/4t to put my ladder racks on to take that duty from my K2500. Then I'd like to have a C/30 flatbed chore boy, if not a contractor ump body. I never said never, but what I did promise myself is I'll only buy what I can store under roof. That will have to come with my next place

Re: You promised yourself no more projects, but ...

Years ago I had a 38 Ford truck I was building (the one with a fencers mask grill). I had mounted it on a Mazda truck chassis, amazing fit btw. I also had a 28 Ford coupe shell stashed. That was back when we were still renters. Time to finally buy a house and we sold everything we had to help come up with the money for our first down payment.

Forward a little while I was looking for a project truck. Ran across a 42 Chev for sale. Guy was moving so I had to get it out of his place pretty quickly. But he said I had at least a couple of weeks. Got the title, he signed but didn't date it. A week later I was able to borrow a trailer. Stopped by to let him know so I could arrange with him. He was gone, truck was gone. A neighbor told me he had the truck hauled off … Whattt?

Basically that was that. Forward 30 years, give or take, and two days ago I found the title for the 42 Chev truck. So maybe if I found another that didn't have paper work?

Re: You promised yourself no more projects, but ...

I've found that if I have the 'right' one, I can be satisfied and not continue to search and collect. My 61 Bel Air satisfied my X-frame chevy search obsession. Hopefully, this 67 short fleet I just got will satisfy my truck obsession. Someday, maybe I can apply this to women.

For now, one project is enough for me although I have slowed down to scope a 57 chevy truck and a 65 long bed recently. Just cannot help myself as I want every one I see but since I am not retired or independently wealthy I don't have the time and $$ for more than one right now.

I readily admit my eyes are bigger than my wallet. I sometimes think I’d like to have a warehouse full of them. Then I come to my senses.

My advise is start with the warehouse. I have sold so many projects because I started feeling guilty and stupid for letting them sit out. If they were dry and inside I would still have them all. I sold off the 9 or ten I did after my wife split because I realized my newfound economics would not
allow anything fast to happen with any of them. But that took a while. That first summer it was WOO HOO, now I'll have time to really go at this. I bought the '71 C/30 wrecker, '69 C/20 Stepside, and '71 K/10 SWB Fleetside. Time yes, money, no. All got sold off.

She also told him that I’d have another truck in a week.
I’ve been looking at 65 long bed on Craigslist in KC.
I’d like to find a 67-72 4x4 longbed that I could put the camper shell I bought about a week ago. Yep I bought a camper shell and no truck to put it on. When I had the 72 I couldn’t find one that I liked. Well I found one I like, maybe I’ll find another truck.
Yup. I’ve done the same.
I’ve got so many parts to do an up grade on a truck that I don’t even have.
My 70 C-10 is set up the way I want it, with me adding the stuff that it didn’t come from the Factory with (PS,PB, and Tilt column), but I started collecting stuff for the C-30 that I was going to find, somewhere.
My intentions were to have both trucks with the same Colors.
Well, I went a different route and bought a newer C-30, that I didn’t have to build.
Now I’ve got three or four truck boxes of parts I don’t need.....yet.
BTW, I’m always looking, and if the “Right Truck” presents itself, I’ll have a place for my parts

Re: You promised yourself no more projects, but ...

My '67 SWB project came to be from realizing I could sell the '72 SWB that I was driving, that I wanted to do to my taste, because I had all the parts to build a complete truck from parts. I do wish I hadn't sold that '72 so I would have had one to drive while I built the project truck. Especially since that was over ten years ago and the project truck has been stagnant. Oh well, hindsight.

Geography takes care of that sickness for me as around here trucks are priced ridiculously and only a parts or absolutely beaten truck can be had for 2k. Driver quality are 6 k minimum and still need a ton of work.

Re: You promised yourself no more projects, but ...

I'd like to get another truck, but finding what I want (ain't working hard at that- seems like it won't happen). I want a bare bones 6 cyl 3OTT or 4 OTF step side somewhere between '60 and '75 (to avoid SMOG tests). I'd settle for a fleet side. Sadly, when my neighbor across the street moved a few years ago, he had a restored '58 1T with a 6 and 4 OTF. He was asking $18k (B-J price, I guess) but ended up selling it for $8k. Had I only known he was going to go that low, it would be in MY driveway. It already had a beautiful metallic blue paint job and the interior was done, and lots of new chrome pieces. It wouldn't have been much of a project- it only needed a master cylinder rebuild.

Another requirement would be minimal rust. Ain't got the time or skill for that kind of repair.

My buddy never hangs on to any vehicle for too very long. He's always saying, "You can't fall in love with them". That's my problem, I do. I don't own anything that doesn't move me in some way. If there was no passion in it I'd be driving the most economical vehicle as purely a necessity. I'd also have a problem with women that are fast and fun to handle if I didn't apply my buddy's car advise to that kind

You live in what I call the truck rich Tri-States of Idaho, Washington and Oregon and you like a truck in New Jersey that would would probably cost 2/3000. to get home to Washington State no matter how you decided to transport it. As been said I think " Projects Anonymous" 12 Stepper Program is best for you. Sounds like the decision was made for you with the sale.

Ain't it the truth.

I need another truck like I need another hole in my head. BUT There's a really clean 65? C10 by my other house that looks like it's been parked for a long time. Paint still shines. It looks like it would be an easy one to clean up. I haven't ever seen anyone at the house and it's all fenced. But I always drive by it whenever I go to my place, which is about every 2 weeks. One of these days someone's going to be home there and I might be in trouble. I already have 8 cars. I don't need #9 But I still drive by every time. I need help.

Yup, I did that for 40 years. Couldn't pass up an old abandoned tractor sitting in a field or under a tree. Probably restored 30 of them. Got sick 2 years ago and had to sell all of them. Made the promise then, which I will keep. Turn the page and work on something else (motorcycles, trucks, cars, firearms).
