Adding Electric Choke to Original Bi-Metalic Type
The choke on my 71 QJet sucks ! Takes forever to disengage. I see you can purchase a aftermaths electric coil to replace the Orin one mounted on the manifold that connects to the choke valve. Has anyone done this conversion ? Looking for feedback... thanks

Re: Adding Electric Choke to Original Bi-Metalic Type
Yes, I have seen other threads talking about aftermarket electric choke modifications to old carburetors. The route I ended up taking was to just get a newly remanufactured 1981-86 model year Quadrajet from National Carburetor, and that way I benefit from other advances the carburetors had in the years after 67-72, but before computers. Other benefits are it is plated and pretty, works with E10 gas, lifetime warranty, and very inexpensive. National Carburetor custom built my carburetor to have the throttle rod linkage, since I have a 1969 truck (I don't have the throttle cable like the 1971+ trucks have). If you go this route, I suggest call them. In my experience, their sales guys are friendly and knowledgeable.

Re: Adding Electric Choke to Original Bi-Metalic Type
I used an electric choke conversion from Mike's Carburetor Parts up in Centralia WA. More information here on my repair thread. Scroll down to post 590. I have used this style in the past and have no complaints.

Some that I have seen.
https://quadrajetparts.com/electroni...971-p-399.html https://quadrajetparts.com/electroni...78-p-2640.html Wonder if you can adjust yours to pull off faster, or if a new choke spring would help.

You can buy the e choke from Summit too. Heck even my ORiellys has one on the wall.

Re: Adding Electric Choke to Original Bi-Metalic Type
Make sure you are getting 12v to the choke or it will never work right. Run a new wire from a 12v ignition switched source, do not piggy back off of the coil + terminal, that's only 6v.
