What's the best way to recess the off set washers into the wood for the bed mounting hardware? I've practiced with a router and some scrap wood, but feel their has to be a better(easier) way.

I would try a Forstner bit... somewhat like a spade bit but cuts a hole with clean edges and a smooth bottom. Am not familar wood bed kits..... Are the holes predrilled?....you may have to temporarily fill the holes, so that the center of the bit can bite into the wood enabling a quality recess for the offset washers....Thes Forstner bits are available in various sizes.... Practice with a piece of scrap wood untill you get the feel of it !!!
If you do have to fill the holes temporarily; try using dowels of the proper size....

These were not predrilled but I drilled them and marked the outline of the washer. It looks like the center is not over the 3/8" hole I drilled. This is wood that I bought from Lowe's. I'll look into the forstner bit. The thing is I only want to go down about as deep as the washer is thick (not much). I do have access to a drill press.

Use a router with a a template guide bushing and hardboard template of washer size recess holes. Use some scrap to practice to make your holes. After you get these done, lay the washer in the recess hole you just cut and mark position of thru holes. Use brad point drill to make these holes. Wa-la

I just finished mine, used a 11/2" forstner bit in a drill press.
If you have already drilled the bolt holes you may want to make a temporary plug so the point of your bit can be offset from the center of your holes. A drill press makes it much easier to control the depth of your washer hole.

Thanks guys! Yea I already drilled the holes. I can get some 3/8" dowel and plug the hole for drilling.

I've practiced with a router and some scrap wood, but feel their has to be a better(easier) way. __________________ 1970 K25, 8' stepside bed 350/465/205 44 up front, 60 in the rear 4.10s rolling on 33" Dunlop MTs 1986 K5, 350/465/208 Dana 60/14 bolt from a cucv 36" Super Swampers TSL/SX 1983 K20 w/ CUCV axles, 350/700R4/208 sitting on 37" Goodyears 1986 M1031 6.2 diesel, TH400/NP205 locker in the rear and a LS in the front, all stock for now..... 1986 K30, 350/400/205 dana 60 and 14 bolt. I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone. 1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed. 1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm
