they guys at the local NAPA put a SEMI filter on top of the motor in his truck. That sucker was atleast 14 inches tall. My k&n filters are 14x4.

while k&n's flow more air this is because they don't filter the smaller particles that a fram will filter out, plus u can never clean out a filter to a new state

hey 2tankin79 you wouldnt happen to have some pics of your 327 would you? I would be interested in seeing how you mounted all your accessories without the bolt holes in the heads. The setup i had on my 327 worked but it was a pain in the butt.

It says they are all too big.. i dont have a/c on it.. and my alternator squeels because the belt is out of line.. i need the bracket that holds it on there.. i agree.. the 327 without the bolt holes in the head is a pain..

Thanks for all the replies.. i think the 6'' is the one i have seen.. lookin at it for a few minutes makes me believe its a lil too tall.. i dont like the look of the lil wimpy lookin ones.. I just like the looks of it.. i know a 4'' would be plenty..

Jeff

I had all the same problems on mine. When i transplanted the 327 into my 85 i switched to a serpentine setup. I got one from an early model chevy van. I think it was an 87. I used the 2 P/s hole and drill out the two on the exact oposite side of the p/s one and put a heli coil in them. Then i just put on from the bracket into the hole that is on the front of an edelbrock aluminum intake. I put some braces from the compressor and altonator down to the intake for some added support. I can get you come pictures if you like. I really like the setup.

I put a K&N on a 98 chevy at 230 miles, sold the truck with 102,000 miles. Never had any engine problems. I cleaned it twice during that time and it came out brand new both times. It probably was on dirt roads as much as paved, and I never had any problems due to poor filtration. I've had K&N's on 4 trucks, and I have one on my dodge diesel now. Never had any problems with anything related to the filter or filtration.

What most folks don't know is K&N filters were designed for dirt track racing. I used to help a guy with his dirt track car and believe me, them things get dirty. Never did I see any dirt on the inside of the filter or air cleaner. They filter better than any stock paper element filter no matter who makes it. If you use the filter recharging kit that comes with cleaner and oil, it will clean up like new. Although, you don't need to clean them very often. You will not beat a K&N air filter.

I wouldn't run a Fram anything on my vehicles.

actually the K&Ns filter better once they get dirty (up to a point though, at some point they become downright restrictive). Testing revealed that a cheap paper element might flow a little more but filter less, a good paper will filter a tad better but flow less. A foam filter filled with oil is the best but only for short or track usage because they get brittle and you don't want chunks of them to be swallowed. K&N with the ability to re-oil has always appealed to me. It's the best of both worlds and the fact that dirty paper elements make the engine look like crap doesn't do it for me either.

Is there an advantage to having a taller filter? And Is the K&N top that is a filter any good?
