Question How to replace outside door handle?? ('98)

This is my first post, but I'm glad I found this place... because I'm in a pickle.

I have the panel off on the inside of the door of this 1998 Silverado now... but I can't seem to get the secondary black metal panel off, even after taking all the hex screws off. Something is still keeping it on and I don't know what.

If someone could oblige me with step-by-step information on what to do, now that all the hex screws are out, about getting the inner metal panel off... so I can get to the hex screw that lets the outter door handle off.... I would appreciate it. Pictures would be great, too, but not required.

As an added bonus, a little help figuring out how to replace the door handle would be appreciated. This handle is broken so I got another at a junk yard to replace it.

Thanks. Gotta finish this up before Father's Day... whew.

I'm not sure what black panel you are talking about, on mine that secondary panel is the inner door shell and cant be removed. I was just working on mine last night as I had a attempted breakin.

After you take the plastic door panel off, you should see the clear plastic that is sort of glued to the door, slowly pull this off. now there are only 2 bolts that hold the handle in place, one at the bottom of each side. look at the new handle you have and you will see the holes. You will need a 10 mm socket with a swivel and a 3" extention. with the door open and you standing on the "inside" of the door look at the panel, there is a hole about 1" in diameter located about 6" from the "latch" side and about 4" down from the edge of the window. look inside the hole and you will see 1 bolt. now for the second bolt, look at the edge of the door near the handle and you will see 1 bolt of the same size sort of at an angle. After these are removed the handle is loose, and can be pulled out slightly next just remove the 2 rods connected to the lock and the handle. I won't be able to get pics until this weekend though..
