Dash Cluster Lights

as a few of you have probably read, i got a new tach dash for my truck. The guy who had it before me put red lights inside of it. my only concern is that he left the funky green stuff in there and i'm not sure how the red lights and green stuff will look. i haven't hooked it up yet, but i had it apart to switch the bezels and i wanted to go ahead and paint the green stuff white while i had it apart. i have heard of a few guys doing this before and i was wondering what i all needed to paint. and also what kind of paint should i use
thanks for any responses
