Head Selection for turbocharging
Pretty simple. Aluminum or Iron? If you read my "insane idea" post you'll have a bit more info on what i'm plannin on. Anyways i'd use head studs instead of bolts for the extra strength but i dont want those heads comin loose or blowin a gasket under boost. I'd be running 15psi i think at max, maybe more if i really wanna push some ponies.
Thanks engine guys!

I have a 72 SS camaro with a 355 and a 6-71 on top pushing 19lbs of boost constant. (thats not what it spikes at).
If you want you can run either head but you just need to make sure the aluminum head has a thick deck. AFR,brodix, are both top notch alumium heads and can run very high boost levels with no problems. If you want a little help shoot me a email at Schulzautomotive@Hotmail.com and I can help with the boost questions I have worked on lots of turbo, nitrous, and supercharged cars.

Every car i've seen with aluminum heads and a turbo consistantly cracks the head open.

As with any head heat kills.
If you can cool the head enough with a thin head or have a thick enough deck you wont have problems. I have put turbos on GN's, camaros, and even a 16G turbo on a dodge neon without a problem. A lot of the problems come from too much boost and not having the right plugs/timming as well as cooling. A water to air or air to air intercooler is a good way of helping the problem. But if you dont have a intercooler as with my 6-71 roots supercharger you really have to pay close attention to the small stuff.
