1970 CST Short Bed Update
I wanted to share some progress I made on my truck. I bought it about 8 years ago. Used it to haul stuff to the dumps for a year or so and then it just ended up sitting on the side yard. The tranny started leaking bad, the gas smelled like paint thinner. It wouldn’t even start so I just let it sit and sit. I really wanted to do a full restoration on it but family, time, money and knowledge was not on my side. One day a friend came by and offered to help me out. Instead of a major restoration he offered to get things in order so I could enjoy the truck again. It took me awhile to get things in order but I am very happy to have it back on the road. We ended up putting in a rebuilt motor and 700r transmission. I got the AC back up and running and installed all of the cool stuff I had been collecting over the years. All in all it turned out great.

The left fender was the only piece of sheet metal that wasn’t original paint. My friend found on that was a great match.

Re: 1970 CST Short Bed Update
The PO had cut out a joke on the side of the bed so I made a patch and JB welded it on

Nice work! I especially like how sticky those tires are, you can run upside down! J/K, I have trouble with pictures, too.

Re: 1970 CST Short Bed Update
Nice truck and nice job.
Looks like you installed the large diameter washer and spring on the tilt column at the intermediate shaft. Those 2 parts are not needed with a tilt. |

Re: 1970 CST Short Bed Update
Brian, I have enjoyed helping you get your truck back on the road.
It’s one of the cleanest rust free original trucks I’ve worked on and you deserve it. I know how hard it was for you to just let it sit on the side of your house all those years. When you told me that first day the story about this truck.... I could see it in your eyes how bad you wanted to get her on the road again but with your new baby and other things you expressed to me you just couldn’t rite then. I new i had to help....... I have respect you for being a great dad and husband and focusing on your family first. I’m also glad we’ve become friends and that I’ve been a part of and able to help you accomplish your dream of driving your truck again.

Re: 1970 CST Short Bed Update
Cool story and truck. Looks like it was worth the wait.
One thing about a single cab truck, you and the kids fit just fine. You can give mom a break and take em out dad style. My kids like riding in my 93, and it’s nice having them close. Whoever sits in the middle gets to run the shifter if they want.
