1/2 inch fuel line question

has anybody done a 1/2 inch fuel line mod from tank inside cab to fuel pump in metal line. if so how did you do it please. 1972 lwb c10

I'm not an expert here, but I haven't heard of a 1/2 fuel line. I believe the standard was 5/16 for 6cyl, and 3/8 for V8. Not sure how you would mate to the sending unit or if a mechanical fuel pump would come in a 1/2 size. I'm sure that if there is a way, someone with more knowledge has already done it here, and could better respond.

I have soldered 3/8 return lines into the sending unit a few times. They solder up real easy with acid flux and radiator solder, not sure of the solder mix, its stuff i have had for decades. Im sure you could replicate the pickup tube in 1/2” and solder on the float aperatus.

I have done as Randy500 says to up size the supply tubing in the fuel tank on other vehicles. Pay attention to how the factory made the hole through the sender top and try to duplicate the style. Use steel tubing as it will solder well.
I am assuming you are looking to make in excess of 600 horsepower and that is the reason for the upgrade to 1/2 inch tubing.

I enlarged the pickup tube in the stock tank of my daughter's 68 and started to have problems with it running out of fuel. The fuel gauge was not working so could not tell the fuel level. It has a holley blue pump mounted on the frame. After a lot of incidents of running out of gas on the way back from the track, I finally realized that the pump would not draw fuel more than 12 inches out of the tank before the suction would fail and it would vapor lock. Not certain but I think the 1/2 line made it worse.

Unless you are making 600+ hp, there is no need to for anything more than the 3/8" line. And as noted above, the fuel pump has to work harder.
