If Open Window = Armrest, what next?
We've all seen it...our trucks have steel right under the window felts down to the insert, and after years of 2-60 air conditioning, the sweat from hanging your elbow out the window has eaten away the paint, and let the metal get rusted if it goes too long.
So what paint or other treatment have ya'll used to fix the problem? Thanks...SSOW

Leave the window up 1/2" so your arm doesn't touch the paint and you won't have a problem.

Restate Question
Ok, real helpful solutions for PREVENTING the problem, and I know that occasional waxing will prevent the problem, too.
I guess I should have mentioned that the truck didn't just roll off the showroom floor, and already had the problem when I bought it.  I'm just getting around to painting the interior, and wondered if there was any better treatment for that area...SSOW

Great Question. I have a very clean Suburban I just picked up. And the paint looks really good on it. Even the interior is really clean. Problem is it has that top of the door rub through. I would like to paint it. but I am afraid it will just happen again. mainly because I would rattle can the door (and that's not the best quality paint). I only need to paint the upper portion. I will be curious to see what others have to say. BTW, I have air and most of the time even if the windows are down I try and keep the elbow on the arm rest. I guess that would be the best.

Mine wore through from the prior owner's AC method. If you not all the way through, clean it up. I'd put some rust convertor on it then glaze/prime/paint. Once I get back on mine, I have to cut it out and replace that section of metal.

I do the leave the window up 1 inch trick it works pretty well My friend sam taught me that one he had a 93 and didnt want the upholstrey getting all nasty

My truck had the same problem on both doors. I just sanded it and sprayed rust converter on it, primered it, then I re-painted it with GM 506 dark olive and it looks like new.
