55.2-59 Brake Pedal Spring Mounting

Hey guys

Just a quick question re the factory position for the main brake pedal spring. My truck was mostly disassembled when I got it and now I cant figure out where it mounts.

I have fitted up the replacement CPP under truck power booster and found the spring knob on the factory pedal OK but where does the other end of the spring mount / connect to.

There is no where under the truck that I can see??

Any help / photos appreciated

I've been wondering where I could find a manual like this.... Thank you! It also answers my brake stop question.

The PDF helped a lot but also raised more questions.

It looks like there is two different pedals, 1 where the spring goes backwards and 1 where it goes forwards.

Looking at my pic it looks like I have the spring that goes back style which will interfere with my fuel line and wiring loom so I will need to move them I guess. I also think I have the spring for the forwards style as there is just no way I can get the spring I have through the upper cast hole if that makes sense. My pic has it the wrong way around and the other end the loop is too small to get in the hole......

you have to be careful looking at the manual because it is also for COE trucks and larger trucks. sometimes the pages get confusing.
it's been a long time since I took mine apart so I don't totally remember. as long as the spring returns the pedal well I don't suppose it would matter which way the spring went as long as there is a good stout mount for it.

All I can say is that I tried again for about an hour today and only succeded in scraping my knuckles to crap. Man there is some tension in the spring before you even get it on .....


Maybe a forward facing sprig off a bracket off the chassis rail will be the go.

google brake spring tools, one of those may be able to give you an idea for a home made tool to get the spring attached.
in the end, whether forward or rearward facing, it is all about getting the pedal to return easily and quickly. however you end up getting that to work. possible a turnbuckle or some sort of adjustable spring pull?
