What a joke, unless there is truly something out there. I have an old can of stripper that was cutting through the repaint, but no the original on my 70. Thinking its Lacquer. So I bought some Zip strip. used this on my 79 and it worked great. This new government regulated formula I dont think even stripped the wax. all it did was leave me with a slimy mess that got all over everything when I was forced to use a wire wheel.

Any other options out there besides mechanical? or blasting

Talks about removing coats of paint laid down over the military CARC paint. One of the suggestions was DOT 3 brake fluid. Be careful with your experimentation. Many of the suggestions involved flameable and/or deadly stuff.

Ran into this a couple years back doing a house remodel when I needed to remove several layers of old paint. The new and improved stripper had all of the mess of the old stuff with little of the paint removal properties. Wound up using a lot of 60 grit sandpaper and dust masks.

The paint stripper wheels for the angle grinder work great.

Eastwood makes a special grinder for there wheels that is amazing. Pricey but works great.

If you want there is soda blasting, and some guys do it as a side buisness on the weekends. Plus they will come to you. It gets cheaper if you clean the mess up.

I have the Eastwood stripper. The problem is pushing down on the roof. May reinforce it with some wood See what happens. Best luck I have ad is a wire cone on 90 degree grinder
