Re: Project Eugene: 1949 5 Window (Part 2)

Well, it was 98* day and it was over 80* in the shop, but I got the shoulder belt sleeves finished. They retract nice when you lean forward now. WIN.

And the cream was the right decision, definitely.

And we got in a full family cruise.

Great truck! Looks just right with the cream colored artillery wheels. Love that you could share it with your grandpa!!

Re: Project Eugene: 1949 5 Window (Part 2)

Well guys- it has been a crazy summer. We have driven the truck a bunch- almost 3,000 miles in the last 2 months.

Finally got it tuned by Carl at Lancer automotive, and MAN is it fun to drive now that we got first gear back!

Won the "Cruise committee's choice" award at the Lakeville Pan-O-Prague cruise

And we celebrated our 15 year wedding anniversary in style...

Then things got weird- and we bought a boat...1978 Mastercraft Stars and Stripes. Yet another money/time/effort sucking project...but wifey LOVES it and we have had a ball with it.

And then last weekend, on our way to a local cars and coffee show- disaster.
I was following one of my best friends in his 1957 Porsche 356. The guy in front of him ran the red in our turn lane and my buddy started to go but stopped short when he saw it was still red. I had already started moving as well and didn't see him stop short fast enough. Smushed the grill up badly enough that the hood wont latch and the fenders were pulling in- Sigh....

So, I am in search of an old beat up chrome grill if any of you have a line on one- BOY would I like to talk to you so I can get this thing back on the road before the salt starts flying up here in MN. I appreciate any and all leads!

So sorry to hear about the fender bender. Hope you can find another grill, and be able to align everything again...Jim

Re: Project Eugene: 1949 5 Window (Part 2)

Can you please provide more information on your shoulder strap setup. I need to put seat belts in my truck before getting it on the road. I bought a set of lap belts but the 'wifey' wont let me install them in the truck. So I either have to figure out someone with a shoulder belt or possibly to to a four point setup.

Re: Project Eugene: 1949 5 Window (Part 2)

Hey Neojuice- I bought the three point shoulder setup from seatbelts plus and build a sleeve to extend up above the back edge of my bench seat so it could slide in and out easier. I found a spot on the pinch seam that goes along the back wall and drilled it in there- might not be as structural as through the B pillar behind the door like some people do it, but it's more comfy and has already stopped me from kissing the steering wheel once in a fender bender...

UPDATE: insurance was good to me and I got some decent money for my side of the fender bender. I found a 'new' grill and pulled the fenders back to pretty darn straight. The good part was that I took more time to align things than I did this spring and I think it might be even better than it was before!
Plus, since I did the work, I spent the rest of the insurance money on tubes to route the air filter out of the engine bay and in front of the radiator for a true cold air setup, four piston brakes, a stage 2 cam kit, and a fancy billet 3200 stall torque converter to install this winter! Stoked to get all of that installed and retune it.....
The Porsche gets picked up this week for a winter's worth of work- which solves my buddy's storage problem- which is one plus.

QUESTION: I want to put some welting between my front fenders and the cab. Which stuff should I get? Seems like some looks like it would be a pain, but figure you guys would have some insight...

Thanks for the response. I'm still trying to figure out in my head what you made the sleeve out of and how you mounted the shoulder strap. Do you have another pictures?

HULK, what are the specs on your wheels and tires? I assume they're 20x8", what backspacing and tire size did you go with to not need wheel tubs in the bed? Looks great, thanks!
