Re: 65 Towing a 69 Chevelle home
What SCOTI said.
I have a Valley class 2/3 hitch which is solidly mounted to the frame. My rear suspension is all air, but 140 psi leveled the truck (normally run 80-100). The hitch is rated at 5,000# load, 500# tongue load. (With a weight distribution kit the rating is 10,000# and 1,000# tongue load. That mostly seems to just help level the load, which in my case the air bags took care of.) The big block engine and forward location on the trailer really put the tongue load high. Trailer has surge brakes and I have 4 wheel disc. Pulled fine down the interstate. My truck came with factory overload springs. I took them off because they were so brutal when they engaged. TR
