Help with Suburban VIN
I am new to the list and looking to purchase a 72 2wd Suburban. I have found one that I am interested in but the VIN # doesn't compute with any decoder that I have found. Can anyone help explain the following VIN# CCE262F160696, or explain why it doesn't follow the normal positions and sequences? Normally these are easy to decode but this one just doesn't compute. It is posted inside the glove box with the options list and the owner says that it is on the title.
Thanks, looking forward to participating on the list. Gene |

I'm mostly doing this off the top of my head, so it may not be absolutely correct. Here goes:
C-Chevrolet C-Conventional 2 wheel drive E-V-8 gas engine 2-3/4 ton 6-Suburban Carryall 2-model year 1972 F-Flint Assembly Plant 160696-sequential number

That sure makes sense. The books I was checking add numbers for engine size, cab to axle dimension and GVW range. Maybe they are referring to other id numbers.
Thanks for your quick response and help. |

chances are you were looking at a SPID decoder. The SPID (Service Parts Identification) sheet is found on the inside of the glove box door (if someone has not removed it) |
