4x4 SWB 1970 CST/10 Build
Hello all and welcome. Starting a build thread for my project. It started when I found a 1970 CST/10 LWB on craigslist with factory air for $500 (score!) and on the way home I had big plans. Next I bought a 67 4x4 LWB frame and then also acquired a 4x4 87 to part out. I currently have the 67 frame sandblasted and painted with POR 15. There was quite a bit of rust in the rear cross members and I am currently doing rust repairs on them. I took the axles from the 87 and went through them and replaced all the seals, bearings, and brakes. I also took the rear spring mounts from the 87 (shorter than 67 for swb conversion and old ones were pretty rusted) and the transmission/transfer case. I am currently bouncing between repairing cross members and mounting the rear springs. I built new front spring mounts (I was missing the old ones) for my new front springs. Once I get the rear springs mounted I should be able to mount my axles and torch the frame in half for the SWB conversion. Ill try to add pictures.

This is one of the cross members while in the middle of repairing it.

This is the worst cross member. Rust had built up almost an inch thick and had pushed and bent the frame up. this is the bottom side of the cross member that goes in between the front rear spring mounts.

the 87 axles. The rear has all the spring and shock mounts cut off because its not in the same location as a 67. the front bolts right in. excuse the mess in these pictures. I am a messy worker

This is what it looks like now, upside down and mounting springs. I am going to just bring my camera out instead of taking all these pictures on my phone to email them to myself and save and yada yada yada

Don't know why these are sideways so don't hurt your neck checking out these good looking pickups. The copper one is in a million pieces spread out on the farm and the teal one I have since taken down to the frame and clear coated the patina since this pic last year.

Update: got the frame flipped right side up and got my 87 axles and suspension mounted on. next I will probably work on mounting the steering sector and 700r4 cross member. pictures will come if I can remember.

Nice build
When you take your pics with your phone hold your camera sideways with the bottom of your phone to your right, volume buttons facing down and they will post right side up everytime.

Re: 4x4 SWB 1970 CST/10 Build
Sooo I got tired of walking around this long frame so I decided to cut it up I did the basic step notch with rounded corners, I ordered an inner sleeve from earlier classic enterprise for extra strength. Used the plasma cutter and spent 1/2 the day today measuring. Plan on starting to join everything together tomorrow. It will be nice to have a SWB!

Re: 4x4 SWB 1970 CST/10 Build
Nice job on the frame. I was in the same boat I had bought a 1971 4x4 frame that needed alot of rust repair, I decided to put my 70 chevy over on a 85 suburban frame instead.

Been a minute since posted last but it’s just been boring bodywork past few years. Rust repair and body filler. Getting paint in the next few days so thing will actually Change how it looks. Got the floor of the cab primed so it looks like there’s progress.
