If you still have the VIN from the truck, you can tell from that. If not, I believe the P/N on the paper sticker in the back will reference it back to being a V6 or V8 tach. I remember reading a good thread on these over at the FSC site awhile ago...

I do not have the truck here at the house it is at a buddy's house and I do not know when I will get back over there. The only thing that I see as far as a paper sticker on the back is a sticker that says QPM 16140115 and on the printed circuit board is A091092. I am not sure if it is an 8 or 6cyl. and the truck is in alot of pieces so if there is any way that I could find out by refering to these #s I would appreciate it.

Hi Paul,
I checked that thread I mentioned, it comes up as a 92-3 Small Block OR Big Block dash. If 68 want's it, let him have first crack at it. If it's still here in a week or so, then I'lle take it(got too much on my plate for this week with Burb parts!!!)

I will send 68 c10 on20's a PM letting him know it's his turn at bat...

Thanks for clearing this up for me, My daily driver is a 94 350 auto and it does have 40-80 on the oil pressure gauge but as far as the speedo on my truck it only goes to 80 mph and I bought it new so that part is not correct and my truck also has all of the gauges in the same spots as this dash.

Re: F/s Tach Dash 94 Silverado

Now I'm confused I thought I had a 91 needle cluster turns out to be a late 91 to 93. Question is i personally pulled it from a chevy 3500 dually w a 454 only 80k and change but it's a 0-30-60 oil pressure gauge and you guys said that's v6. This truck was from original owner elderly man who wrecked it. I'd think it was a stock v8 cluster. My truck never really goes over 30 lbs so will it matter ? Also being a late 91 to 93 how hard to swap in my 90 1500 4x4 shortbed w moonies?

Re: F/s Tach Dash 94 Silverado

Hey

The '92 to '94 I/P's are interchangeable. They are PLUG and PLAY. They are all wired the same.....for a TACH. It is just that some trucks come with the basic dash cluster instead of one with the tach.

The '90 I/P's can be worked on cluster plug wise to function with a tach dash.

The '91 also can be worked to operate with a tach. The '91 was a transition year (to the DRAC {Digital Ratio Adapter Controller} module). The DRAC module is used for calculating engine information (a tach signal) along with rotation information (via the trans and rear gear and or tire size.)

'91 did not have a DRAC proper and the settings procedure for this is unique to '91. DRAC would start the next year. The I/P's of '91 would have the rear gear to speedo calculation adjustment occur at the back of the I/P.

'92 to 93 there is a DRAC (Digital Ratio Adapter Controller) which is behind the glove box. If you change your rear gears or tire size, you can make calibration corrections for the speedometer here. It is pretty straight forward and very doable.

'95 to '96 would have a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). You can use a DRAC up to '96 but you can not use a VSS down to the lower years

I/P's of '92 to '94 are plug and play and inter swappable.

'95 the IP changed as did the interior design.

Re: F/s Tach Dash 94 Silverado

Slightly off topic but I have a question.

I have a 91 V1500 Suburban with a non tach cluster. The odometer and the trip meter do not work. How feasible is it to put one of these 92-94 clusters in? I'm sure wiring would have to be changed but would the entire cluster be comparable with the senders and vss in my 91? vss/fuel/oil/water/volts or did GM change stuff too much?

I am aware that this 92-92 cluster would not fit in the dash but I am trying to find replacement parts for the 91 speedo to fix my odometer and trip meter and all I can find are old ones and that seems crazy to expect a 29 year old part to keep working for long. I can find new clusters of the 92-94 version though.

Inquiring Minds Want to Know.

Re: F/s Tach Dash 94 Silverado

I dug into my inop odometer and inop trip meter yesterday. Mine is a 91 V1500 Suburban. It looks like it has a DRAC but it is below the radio clipped to the back side of the dash. The cluster is vss controlled and the speedo works. I found the trip meter seems to be stuck together and the number wheels will not spin as the odometer wheels do. I attempted to run it without the trip meter shaft in place and it did no better on the odometer. Now the speedo is way lower then it was. I think I can fix that. I'm needing a replacement speedometer including the odometer and the trip meter. Anybody know where I can find one. I can attempt to put pictures here if anyone is interested.

Re: F/s Tach Dash 94 Silverado

So, update as if someone cared. Maybe with pictures.
I found a small gearbox on the end of what looks to be a motor that drives the odometer and trip meter. The gears were catching so I pulled it from the end of the motor and opened it up. Lots of small gears in there. Seven (7) total....the largest is smallller then my pinky nail. I found one that was chewed up on the end so I suspect that was causing the motor to jam up. While trying to verify this I dropped the gear housing and all the gears blew to and two (2) have yet to be found. I spent over an hour looking so I suspect they are gone until I of course find a replacement and then I will find the missing gears. I can't seem to get any picture to transfer to this site so no pictures until I figure that out. I know no one has assisted me in this because I haven't figured it out on my own yet but when I do you guys will be a big help telling me what I learned on my own.

Re: F/s Tach Dash 94 Silverado

Update on post #15 above. My 91 V1500 Suburban has a DRAC located under the radio location. It has the 7 jumpers that have to be physically changed out using solder to change the speed.
