Suspension Crap
About to get under here and install the Belltech lowering kit. What are you guys using to remove these years of gunk and crap buildup?

Engine cleaner soak and pressure washer is what I used. Still have to scrub some spots. Yours doesn't really look too bad really.

Yep, then a wire brush. Or even a wire wheel if need be. Not bad, goes fast. Wear eye protection, that crap gets ballistic.

I don't mind the work...just want to use something that does a good job of loosening it up since I don't have a pressure washer.

I would get in there with a screwdriver or scraper and loosen/remove all the big crap that you can and then wire wheel/brush what you can and then soak spray it down really heavy with something like simple green or the like and let it sit for a couple hours then start back at the beginning of the process to remove what has been loosened. If you have a wire wheel on a grinder you should be able to get most everything off pretty easy before soaking but like mentioned above wear some PPE that crap flies everywhere. Spraying with anything before removing as much of the big chunks is just a waste in my opinion because it will never be able to penetrate deep enough to where you need it with a thick layer of grease and road grime on there.

My .02 is a little more extreme. I would pull all the parts off the front suspension and sand blast them.
Depending on your goals maybe scrap the tie rod end for new ones. Are the ball joints original? If so I would look at replacing. If they have been replaced they should be bolt on so they could unbolted before sand blasting the arms. |
