temp gauge problem

i switched my 3 hole idiot lights to a factory 7 hole with gauges, i followed the diagram that i found here on these boards. since i have a 5.3 from a silverado and i want to add a volt meter i just eliminated the wires for the battery gauge. my problem is the temp gauge pegs to cold when turn on the key. i used the auto meter 2277 adapter and the 2259 temp sender. any ideas?

First pull the wire from the sender and see if it still pegs with key on. If not..,

Put a ground wire from
The bottom post of the temp gauge to a known good ground and see what happens.

ok i removed the wire. same thing key off the needle goes close to the c line key on it pegs to the bottom of the gauge (cold side). i put a jumper to the bottom lug on the gauge and got no difference.

Sounds like a ground issue. I had the same problem with my son's gas gauge. Found out that the whole dash is a ground. Once I screwed in the dash or ran a ground from the dash itself it worked. Not sure if that is your problem or not, but it was mine. Good luck

ok here is what i found key off the needle is at the c line key on pegged to the cold sde is i ground the green wire it pegs to the hot side

Did you ground the gauge like i mentioned above?

I have replacement temp gauge if needed.

yes i grounded the gauge, there was no change it stayed pegged to the cold side. if you think its the gauge ill take it. also would you have a voltage gauge that would fit and work with the ls alternator?
