K10 k20 4wd 4x4 power steering conversion questions
Recently installed cap fab ps plate adapter on my 64 k20. Truck has open knuckle Dana 44 ,79 k20 gear box,6 inch lift springs from tuff country for 72 pick up with dropped pitman and raised steering arm. Drag link is sitting level with ground. Ps plate was installed as per Aotte1 measurement as well as others that I have looked at on this site.
Question #1. What are people doing with the bumper bracket? Question #2. When I adjust drag link for full turns the threads on the sleeve leave more of a gap inside about a 1 1/4 inch compared to the 1/2 inch on the stock height, see photo. Is that enough threads or should I move the box or find a bigger sleeve? Not worried about centering steering wheel as I can adjust at ujoint or wheel. |

whats the deal with your bumper bracket? Maybe steering-box a little too far forward? That might be whats causing the drag-link problem. On my 61 i ground just a little bit off my bumper brace.

Re: K10 k20 4wd 4x4 power steering conversion questions
I used the measurement in aotte k10 build as per Capitan fab ,
it did not let the bumper bracket fit. I already drilled the holes but maybe from my lift the drag link is off. I will move it forward a inch and recheck . I know the 62 and older frames are different maybe why my bumper bracket don't work and yours does I did not see where aotte had tried to install his bumper bracket . Thanks for the help. |

the frames on the 4x4's 60-66 pretty much the same, not like the 2wd frames. Mine is a little different as i used the org closed knuckle axle. I just notched my ft bumper brace. a couple of pics.

Moved the steering box to the rear 1 inch ,used the top back hole of capt fabs adapter into existing steering box hole on frame. Now drag link is good and if i do the the mod you did to your bumper bracket I can make it work. Thanks for your help

Re: K10 k20 4wd 4x4 power steering conversion questions
So here is how I fixed it. Used adapter plate in the top back hole in original box frame hole and leveled pitman arm. Now steering goes stop to stop with the drag link level at 15 1/2 inches long from grease zerks. With room for bumper bracket. Top upper box bolt around 11 3/4 inches to bump stop bracket . Not welded in now but if all good after road test will weld in and use extra holes drilled to plug weld from backside.

Thanks for posting this. It looks like you have a dropped pitman arm and a raised steering arm?

Re: K10 k20 4wd 4x4 power steering conversion questions
Yes I have both. Drag link is the same length as both the stock ones I have and I also am using steering ujoints on both ends due to a 2 inch body lift in order to give my engine and transfer case some extra space. I did have to notch the bumper bracket to make it fit.
