Molding clips - metal or plastic?

Which work better? Gonna order from LMC Truck. No time to find originals, so I need to buy what I can order online. The upper molding on both sides if my longed is off....

Metal IMO...plastic needs the good 3m sticky tape. I have the lower trim plastic could not use any of it, profile is slightly different than original, did not clip on. Not sure about the upper trim plastic clips. I used both push on and bolt on metal for mine.

Nothing aftermarket fits at all. You have to buy used or nos.

I can tell you I bought the metal clips and molding from LMC and they were garabage like most of what they sell.
The metal clip was too short and would spin in the molding channel rather than lock in place.

Second that, just bought some trim and clips from LMC and the quality sucks. Won't buy them from LMC anymore.

Do not waste your time on the plastic ones, I had them on my lower door trim and upper bedside trim (in the middle areas). The sticky tape came loose and my trim was hanging off, had to pull it all back off the painted truck, drill holes and reinstall with bolt on type.

On a side note, all my aftermarket clips (bolt on and push in) worked but every clip required modification, either grinding to lock them (bolt on) in or build up of 3M tape behind them to keep them from flexing (push in). The ones from LMC were larger and better than the ones from Classic Parts. There are places online to buy original clips cleaned up (I have several hundred $ in aftermarket so you could probably spend $600 or more for originals).

I managed to install the lower 67-68 trim from Mar-K with repop fasteners from GMCPauls without much problem. A few of them had to have the spring bent to the other side because they were pressed together backwards. For the most part the clips are the type that are nutted on and those are very forgiving.

BUT, the upper 71-72 trim that I used was oringinal and the repop push in style clips left alot to be desired. My truck has some body putty along the beltline which made the holes thicker and I had to switch to using the original plastic clips and 3M double sided tape. Those push-in clips are good for a set thickness of body panel ONLY...too thick and they don't "click' and hold, and too thin and they are loose. I sure hate the fact that the trim is spaced off the body a liitle bit, but I could not figure out how to use the threaded clips because the backsides are soooo inaccessable at the beltline of the bed.

Go with metal and stay away from lmc
