66 c10 driveshaft donor

I have a 66 that i need to find a 2 piece drive shaft/donor for..My truck is full custom with air-ride etc..hence the reason needing a 2 piece driveshaft...I have heard/assume that it would be cheaper to find a donor and have it cut and fitted to what i need...I have been looking for a square body 2 piece but no such luck around my area (east central Illinois)....Is there another donor i can use? maybe a early to mid 90s chevy 1500 2 piece?

We're going to need more than "66"...
- SWB or LWB:
- transmission
- rear end

Re: 66 c10 driveshaft donor

If your truck is that nice I would just have the shop make a new driveshaft.

In my experience the local shop is not that expensive. They do charge "retail" prices for U joints etc, but are you really going to use old u joint in a new build?

The parts that you need (to save money) are the transmission yoke, rear axle yoke, and the joint at the carrier bearing. (they will likely cost $40-50 each). Note that they all need to be for the same diameter tube.

It should be easy to find an old longbed driveshaft as so many trucks have been shortened.

SWB with a 700r trans and a chevy 10 bolt rear end...

I have the trans yoke and pinion yoke...There are NO driveline shops with in 2.5 hours from where i live...There are several machine shops that can shorten and balance...Hence the reason for wanting to find an existing 2 piece and put all new U-joints and have cut to fit..

You shouldn't need a two-piece driveshaft. There are several reputable driveline providers who will make a driveshaft for you based on the measurements you provide often for around $300. They have easy-to-follow worksheets to do this. I had Mark Williams build me many driveshafts and ship them to me. Strange Engineering in Illinois is another great provider. There is also Denny's Driveshaft (who provided me with a 4L80E slip yoke for my truck). Just some options to get something new specifically built for your truck that is usually less than a re-worked used shaft.

Download the driveshaft worksheet from Denny's. Print it, go measure everything. Send it to them, order a new one piece shaft. Delivered to your house.

This should be the correct sheet:

Absolutley no way to run a 1 piece shaft without tunneling the cab..this truck will lay flat out on its frame when aired out if i wanted to...Has to be a 2 piece no questions asked..

Short bed but that shouldn't matter as I will have it cut to fit

Re: 66 c10 driveshaft donor

I put a 2000 chevy 2 piece driveshaft in my 66 long bed. I had it shortened and new u-joints trans yoke, and center bearing. A lot more heavy duty than stock.

Is it the light duty drive shaft or the heavy duty version?
