Is this engine/trans scrap?

I'm looking to do a little spring cleaning out back and was going to scrap this engine and trans. I thought I would ask if anyone wants it or parts of it. I don't want any money. I would hate to throw it away and have one little obscure part someone can't find be gone. It all worked 8 years ago when it was in a garage fire. It has been in this old trailer outside since.

Re: Is this engine/trans scrap?

maybe I am crazy, but keep the valve cover with the 'GMC' on it.

If someone has a GMC, that logo would look cool welded into a dash, or a firewall, or something like that??? ....just a suggestion...

Re: Is this engine/trans scrap?

I've got a buddy who is totally into these old GMC engines. He's not on the board, but I just sent him a link to the page. I'll let you know as soon as I hear back from him. Thx

Re: Is this engine/trans scrap?

There are probably a few good parts on it . Like the balancer . But with the fire doubtbul if any good. The three speed trans has some value but are a bearcat to ship . And again with the fire ????

Here is the another thing . I have seen guys on this forum having trouble sell a running 228 . Sorrry . I had several I hauled a way for Cast when cast prices were high . I save the 302 's back but the rest went to Sheena or manhole covers.

Re: Is this engine/trans scrap?

I've had better luck selling individual parts. The valve cover is a good wall hanger. The rocker arms and shaft may be salvageable. Are the manifolds any good? The oil pan, water pump?

I don't sell anything. If I don't need it I give it away. Just thought someone might want something. The Bobcat won't care.

Re: Is this engine/trans scrap?

I'd say the value of that one directly equates to the cost of gas to go get it. No Handle Sam's buddy might salvage enough usable pieces to make it worth while as a lot of those little bolt on pieces might make it worth the gas and time to go get it. I'd think that the insides look just as bad as the outsides though and going after it has to include the enjoyment of the road trip as part of the deal.
