How can a guy figure out what exterior mirrors the pickup came with from the factory ?

Do you have a picture of your SPID?

Re: Original Style Mirrors

If no optional ones are listed on the SPID, it would have come with these (I assume you're asking about your 68):

Re: Original Style Mirrors

68 Doors should have the three theaded holes for those mirrors on them. Quite often they have the original screws back in them if the mirrors were changed at the dealerships. I would say that the chances the truck left the factory with those mirrors is pretty high as either the dealer installed mirrors that the customer requested at the time of the sale or the customer installed their own mirrors.

I've got a pair of nice 68 doors I am going to put on my 71 and I plan to use some chrome aftermarket brackets and slightly larger mirror heads. I don't want west coast jr or other aftermarket mirrors and the later sport mirrors are too close in to tow my boat with.

Re: Original Style Mirrors

as Jocko said, optional mirrors will be listed on the SPID. If none shown the standard mirror is shown in his picture. If the SPID is missing, and you don't have that type of mirror now, look in the door window frame up top and look to see if two holes were filled where the RV Jrs were mounted. The only other mirrors would have been West Coast Srs which would have had three hole spread wider also in the upper door frame

Re: Original Style Mirrors

Thanks for the info

I am asking about a ‘71 K20 I just got, I plan to put the trim packages back on the pickup & painting it a two tone. These mirrors won’t work with the upper trim

Re: Original Style Mirrors

AH! Well, that's a slightly different story then, sorry, assumed you were asking about the 68 in your signature 71-72 had a different base mirror. Since no optional mirror is mentioned on the SPID, it would have come with sport mirrors. (ignore the extra bolt holes on the K10 pic...)
The mirrors currently on your truck are from a squarebody.
As for trim, truck is a Custom/20 trim level, i.e. base - and the paint would have been white top only, rest of body all med bronze, despite being ordered with both upper and lower moldings. Sharp truck, congrats!

CJ2A -- If you want to get rid of your current mirrors, I could use them on my '71 GMC Jimmy. A PO put Squarebody mirrors on it and I've wanted to swap them out for period-correct rearviews ever since.
PM me to discuss terms if interested.
