My tilt column
I just picked up my tilt column from Les "70Shortfleet". Man was I impressed at his setup. His work area completely organized neat with everything needed to do a professional job. He took my motorhome column and converted it to truck. He even modified the neutral safety switch to use the stock truck one. My truck is a 68 50th but I am changing the color just a tad to 78 Trans Am gold. It is almost the same just a little more sparkle. Took him the paint and sprayed it clear coated and even powder coated the inner shaft. many new parts that he had in stock and a fast turn around time. I almost don't want to install it because it looks so much better than the rest of the truck. I highly recommend Les he does excellent work.

Re: My tilt column
I had bought a supposedly rebuilt column from a company, had it painted body color, then installed it.
Once I got the truck on the road I soon realized the column had not been totally rebuilt. I contacted "70Shortfleet", Les, sent him the column, and he got it rebuilt, and sent back quickly. He did a great job for me, and if I had another column to rebuild I would definitely send it to him. My granddaughter was as excited as I was after I got it installed! |

Re: My tilt column
I agree. Les also does gauge clusters. He has made a punch that duplicates the gauge cut outs on the clusters and the tach cut outs to make tach dashes. Also restores consoles.

Re: My tilt column
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to test the tilt column I got from Les. However, it is a thing of beauty and I have no doubt it will perform as it should. Hell, the “packaging” alone was nothing short of amazing! If he takes the care on shipping his products like he does, I can only imagine the care he takes building the columns. And, he was great to work with. I’m somewhat of a newbie and he answered every question I asked. Great Guy!!

Re: My tilt column
Quick question... How long a job is the column swap? I have one in my shop and just have been putting it off.

Re: My tilt column
I am also glad to have met Les and am using one of his tilt columns. I just stopped by last week to get an overdrive gear indicator for a my upcoming 700R4 swap. Les is a good guy and fortunately for me just a couple of miles away!

JMac
I would guess 2-3 hours. I haven't done mine yet but the hardest part would be to get the old stuff apart. Then it would depend on how much cleaning you plan on doing to it. Tim_MC I am about 2 1/2 hours north of Les and it was well worth the drive. |
