Help with tie rod ends/disc brake conversion please
As I've mentioned before, I'm putting disc brakes on the front of my 65. I pirated the parts from a 71 gmc 1/2 ton. As I understood it, by swapping the ball joints and outer tie rod ends, these parts would fit. Here's the problem. My 65 tie rod ends are reverse/left hand thread and my 71 tie rod ends are standard/right hand thread. So what do I do about it? Do I need the 71 adjusting sleeve also? Help! Thanks, -Noah

We worked demmit-hemmit's 65 burb with a conversion from salvaged 71 parts. If I remember right, the tie rod ends from the 65 fit the 71 spindle. Hemmit??

You will also need the 71 centerlink. I did this on my 63 and used 72 spindles and centerlink. I don't remember the exact combination of tie rod ends and sleeves I used, but it was all factory or replacment parts.
Sorry I can't provide more detail, but this was a few years ago and I have since parted ways with the truck. |
