Back in a k20

Just picked up a 72 custom deluxe k20 custom camper. Really glad to be back in one after getting rid of my 72 k20 a couple years ago. This one is really solid and unmolested other than some goon putting diy undercoating type paint on the hood and top of cab. So I’ve definitely got to lose that. Also planning on getting some correct hub caps for it. I’m attaching pics of truck and spid. Hoping some experts can shed some light on my paint scheme. Spid reads white and dark olive paint. My understanding is for a white top and white between moldings it should read white / dark olive / white. So did mine not originally have the white down the sides?

Hell yes! Nice score with nice options. Tach, Aux tank, 4 speed, custom camper... very nice! It should be White roof dark olive body.

Thanks, I really like the Cheyenne’s but this one checked all the boxes for me so I’m really happy with it. That’s what I was thinking on the paint as well. I’m thinking that most of the dark olive on it now is original and someone added the white between the moldings.

Re: Back in a k20

I have seen a few saying the option code is not correct for paint with white between the moldings. My truck has the same type paint, maybe if the custom deluxe truck was ordered with lower moldings as mine and yours was white would be in between the moldings. Painter doing my truck says most of the two tone looks original. Truck was originally sprayed mostly white and the bronze was sprayed secondary.

Ryan,
Glad it went to a good home. That's one of the best trucks out of all the ones from OREGON
definitely a survivor. I'll bring the brush guard on the way to the beach

Funny thing, those mats were actually in my first truck I ever had, an 85 k10. I kept them when I sold it, they’ve been in a few old trucks I’ve had.

That’s good to know, if I didn’t look at the spid I’d bet this truck was originally white down the sides. But who knows, so many variances on these things. But I kinda prefer the white on the sides myself anyway.

Sounds good Ken, and I’ll let you know if I make it up your way before the beach. That brush guard should look perfect on here.

Re: Back in a k20

After doing some more research, it looks like my truck would originally have had the white down the sides. This is what the 466 code dark olive and white means? The 466 signifies the deluxe two tone which would mean white on top and sides?

Correct, if your SPID shows 466, originally a Deluxe Two Tone. This is a perfect example of how only the three character RPO, not the wording of the RPO, matters.

Deluxe two tone being ordered automatically required upper and lower side moldings - but the opposite isn’t true, many solid or conventional two tone trucks were ordered with both moldings. Trim level is also completely independent of paint scheme and what type of two tone was applied. Just took a gander at your build thread and SPID - your paint code is a Deluxe Two Tone, so your mid-white is correct to original.

Thanks for the help. That’s good to know. From what I can tell it looks to be original paint, I think maybe the drivers door was touched up at some point. Can’t believe some clown put the undercoating stuff on the hood and roof.
