What gauge metal is our trucks made of?
I'd guess 18-20 gauge. Anyone know for sure?
I usually use metal from an old door or fender to do any patch work but if I come across a good deal on new sheetmetal, I'd like to use the exact gauge. It would be nice to start with new metal instead of cleaning 30 years of paint off old stuff before welding.

I used 18 ga for all the patch work on my truck it looked right. 20 ga is a little to thin IMHO

I have measured different thicknesses depending upon how much it has been worked during forming and where it is located. The cowl is close to 22 ga. while the box and cab floor are 16 ga.
