Re: Lowering shackles???

DJM Suspension makes them. But they will require notching a cross sill on your bed to provide clearance for the spring. How much lowering is your friend looking for?

Re: Lowering shackles???

Not looking for anything big lowering wise. He is a good friend, he and I think alike on these classics, a mostly stock look, a little lower is nice, but not slammed or on the ground.
The rear of this pickup sits a little higher than the front. The stock shackles are about 4-5 inches between the shackle bolts, looks like there's about 4-5 inches between the top of the stock shackle and the bed floor.

Re: Lowering shackles???

My truck came with lowering shackles and I put them on but found out that the bed floor touched the shackle before the bed floor could come to rest on the frame. I don't know why it happened for me, I've never heard of that happening to anyone else. I have heard of having to notch the cross sill though for the leaves. This resulted in 2" of drop.

So I put the stock shackles back on and put on lowering leaf springs (a little pricey) and ended up getting just over 3". I had the HD leaves. I expected to get more than 4", but I guess the springs sagged over time. It's all a little unpredictable it seems as springs sag over time and not all trucks had the same springs/ride height.

If I were you, I would ask DJM for the eye to eye length on their shackles so you can decide if they will work or not before ordering.

Re: Lowering shackles???

Shackle least expensive and MIGHT get you 2". More like an 1 1/2". Great for leveling a truck with stock springs in the front.

Next cheapest is a flip kit. DJM the source again. On my truck netted 7 1/4" drop. Too much for some.

Reality is the only way to get something between 1 1/2" and 7" is to buy springs. I would buy a set of springs that were right at or just less than the drop you want, then keep the shackles in your back packet to get just a little bit more if you need to fine tune ride height.

Re: Lowering shackles???

I looked at the DJM website. Their lowering shackle says it will lower your truck, 2 inches.

He is not ready for this work yet. I WILL call them to find out what the distance is between the mounting bolts. The picture of their shackle has 2 sets of holes in one end...
