48 grill
Does anyone have pictures of how and what the grill on a 48 gmc is mounted to?

47-48 gmc 1/2 ton grilles are really heavy duty, and I think they are the best looking of the 47-53 gmc trucks. but they mount differently because of their weight, they are easily 3x heavier than the 48.5-53 grilles. the lower mount goes to the bumper bracket/splash pan. the upper braces go through the inner fenders (there are big rubber covered ovals in the 47-48 gmc inner fenders) to solidly mount it. jim carter has pictures. http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/Articl...-GMC-Grill.php I still have the special 47-48 scooped bumper in storage, with the heavy grill mount on it. the guy I had do the work on my 47 used the 48.5 bumper because it was "easier" (until it came time to mount the grille that is) and I ended up having to buy the extra front end at the mercy of the guy I had borrowed the other bumper from. hands down the most expensive front end I have ever bought, I was over a barrel because I had already used parts of it, and the seller knew it. let me know if you need a picture of the lower grille mount.

Re: 48 grill
Thank you. The 48 i have was in pieces when i bought it but it has an after market frame on it so i will have to do a little engineering to get the bumper and the other stuff to fit.

Re: 48 grill
I wondered what the oval holes were for. I bought new inner fender wells but no ovals cut in them, i also bought a new grill and have not compared to the old one so that probably won't be the same as the original then?

Re: 48 grill
the 48.5-53 grille mounts totally differently, straight to the inners. if you dont have a 47-48 grille then you dont have to buy anything extra, it will bolt straight in.

Re: 48 grill
I do have the original grill, it was cheaper to buy new than get rechromed except i didn't know they were different. I will see if they will take the new one back or sell it out right. Thanks for the info.

Re: 48 grill
I love the look of the early gmc grille so it would be an easy choice for me too, but if you are worried about install the later 48.5 grille is a lot easier to install and still looks great.
I have had both, both look great. IMG_0876_zpsrv9ekd1b by Joe Doh, on Flickr IMG_2983 by Joe Doh, on Flickr
