'60 Shock Mount

60 front lower shock mount is wallowed out. I was thinking I would get a 5/8 headed drill bushing from McMasters or Graingers drill the hole in the control arm out to an even 3/4. Install the drill bushing from inside the control arm and weld a little around the head then cut the bushing off level with the control arm on the shock side. Will the Rockwell 62 hardened drill bushing weld Ok? Is this plan overkill? What has anybody else done?

I would not weld a hardened drill bushing and use it for what you are wanting to use it for. You need something mild steel to weld into the hole, that will take the abuse.

I used steel spacers on both my '61 & my '60. Has worked fine for years.

I don't suppose you have any pictures? Were they just large flat washers on each side of the hole?

I also used some thick flat washers on my 60 with no problems.

Sorry, I don't have pictures. Yes, large spacers or thick washers on both sides.
