I bought a vacuum gauge cluster for parts
I bought a vacuum gauge cluster off of ebay for parts that looked to be untouched but not sure. Does the vacuum cluster most of the time have a 80lb oil pressure gauge? This one dont have a tach and the lens says air pressure.

Re: I bought a vacuum gauge cluster for parts
Does yours look like the bottom one in this picture? If so then it is out of a big truck (C40 and larger) and the air pressure guage was for the air brakes not vacuum. The bottom photo shows a vacuum guage. (Sorry not the best photo)
I believe the oil pressure guage range was related to what engine option the truck was equipped with.

Re: I bought a vacuum gauge cluster for parts
Remove the bezel and then you'll be able to see what is printed on the gauge--80 vs 60 lb.
But yes, I think most of the time they were 80 lb gauges from the ones I've seen. |

I haven't received it yet but here is some pics of it. I couldn't get the seller to take it apart to see what oil gauge it had in it.

Re: I bought a vacuum gauge cluster for parts
I am guess there is one to many holes in the cluster by the light and wiper switch. That if stock would be rare, and most likely came out of a C-30,40,50, or 60.
Someone will chime in, I want one of those! |

If it was out of a C40, 50, or 60 the steering column notch would not be cut out all the way up. It would look like this. (unless someone has already cut it out) The extra hole in mine was for a throttle. The air pressure gauges usually go from 0-150# the gauge in his dash is a vacuum gauge with an air pressure lens. Re: I bought a vacuum gauge cluster for parts
4 holes are probably headlights, wiper, manual choke, and manual throttle.
I don't know anything about this eras air gauge but the scale is funny for that. Usually air pressure is set to run between 90 and 125 psi with anything below 75-90 kicking the low pressure warning on air brake vehicles. |

Re: I bought a vacuum gauge cluster for parts
You bought an air pressure gauge, not a vacuum gauge. They were only used in the light heavy duties/heavy light duties with air brakes, possibly only C/60s. Vacuum is the opposite of air pressure.

Tim, His gauge is exactly the same as the Vacuum gauge in the cluster I just restored. Someone just used the wrong lens in his cluster. LockDoc
