as some may know i am putting together a 67 GMC cant wait to get it running, supposed to go get my transmission from TXGary thursday night, but back on topic i was wondering what kind of radios are you guys with cut dashes using, as the title to this truck is in my name Dad has no say if i cut the dash or not, even though it is already cut i was just going to finish it off, i was looking at some sony xplode units but thougth i would see what you guys have.

I currently have a Rockford Fosgate head unit in my daily driving rig. I like it, but it's not quite the quality I have had in past units. I had a '71 Blazer that had an Alpine system in and loved it. Have used several different Alpine CD, Cassette Player, and amps(have one now) in the past and have loved all of them, even the first one I bought which had already been used for 2 years. They are a little more spendy, but I think they are well worth it. Lots of other quality stuff out there though. I also have an 800 watt Sony Xplode 4 channell amp that I really like a lot. Seems like you can almost never go wrong with Sony stuff. Lots of opinions on that stuff, so there's my .02.

P.S. It's all sitting on a shelf right now, the suburban went to the body shop today!!

Alpine CD player. Like 68plus4sub they are a little more expensive than most, but worth it IMO. Most of the name brand ones will work fine though. It is really up to you and what you like.

I have an Alpine headunit. My midgit amp for my 8" sub is a California. Kenwood 6.5" (in the doors

) and some low-end sub that my friend gave to me because it wouldn't fit in his truck. So far I'm happy with it! Well, the letters are rubbing off on the track up button, but what can you expect with 2+ years of use.

I have heard that the lasers in the Eclipse like to die early, just what I've heard though...

Ok, I thought I'd throw this idea out there...

I've always felt kind of limited by a single-play CD stereo or even a 6- or 10-disc changer...what I want to do with our truck is install an AM/FM radio with a CD-In jack in the front (I have one in our motorhome, but I'm not sure if they are still being made), or, alternatively, install an amp under the seat that I can jack into.

From there you can jack in an iPod or some other 20 or 40GB MP3 player and have immediate access to more music than you can listen to in a lifetime, along with the ability to create custom playlists, etc. Also, when you park your ride, you can take your tunes with you.

Many of the newer head units have an "auxillary in" RCA or other style of input jack. This allows you to plug in those MP3 players. It's a great option to have, like stepside said, more music than you can listen to in a lifetime!

Eclipse--mine is going on almost 8 yrs. and still plays fine and sounds great. Will absolutely go Eclipse again.

actually I would keep looking into the xplodes. One of the guys here in the office has one and it's one of them that has the movie scenes in the lcd plate and this thing has the capablities of telling that a speaker is blown and exactly which one it is (well it displays ruptured (sp?)). Sony for a long time has been... just there, but they are focusing more of the attention to the decks and I bet within maybe a year they have one of the most innovative headunits available.

I always had good luck with my kenwood. I was the first stereo I ever purchased and it lasted for 6 years and three rigs before I sold it to someone about 4 or 5 years ago and he is still running it.

Alpine is the best but cost the most. Take a CD, try not use rap or heavy metal, to the stereo store with you and swtich between the Alpine and a sony or something like and you will her the diffrance. I use to sell the stuff and I would always let the customers listen to Boston Hitch A Ride you can really hear the diffance with some of that 70s rock.

I tried the jensen mp3,cd player and after a month i cant get it to work,I can tell it is working but nothing as far as sound.The problem is that i owned it for a year before i put it in the truck so the warrenty is no good and they want another $65 for me to send it off to get it fixed.Now what do i do spend another $65 or just right off the $280 for it in the first place.I wouldnt go Jensen ever again,should have known better.
