Re: crap aftermarket parts
Yoicks! I bought an aftermarket kit to upgrade to disc brakes on my truck, and one of the tests I made was to stand on the pedal (once everything was bled and adjusted) with both feet, just to assure myself that this wouldn't happen. When i worked as a mechanic (and even afterwards) I always said, "I don't care what is wrong with your vehicle, but no matter what, it has to be able to stop safely!" I'm glad I did, because the wife and I went camping in February and I had to make a panic stop on the freeway when somebody did something stupid in front of a semi. You never know when something far ahead is going to ripple to you. The semi's tires were smoking. I'd like for people to get flogged when they do stupid life-threatening stuff, especially when they're in front of 80k pounds. I had plenty of clearance, but things still get unnerving.

Re: crap aftermarket parts
The way I see it is It was not adjusted correctly, the rod can only travel so far into the system and something had to give because of too much travel, it was the rod or your firewall that had to give.

Re: crap aftermarket parts
it might look adjustable but it is not . if it were any shorter it would pull the pedal away from the brake switch and keep the lights on . if any longer you would never get the pin into the pedal . as far as that specific rod the end that is bent if it were adjusted with the rod further into the u shaped part it would bind the rod into the petal and you couldn't get the pin into the petal . that dictates how the other side is adjusted so please explain how it could be adjusted wrong .

Re: crap aftermarket parts
You should be able to push like there is no tomorrow and not bend a brake pushrod no matter what. Looks like non-hardened steel was used. Inferior product.

Re: crap aftermarket parts
There was another case of bent brake pedal rod just a month or so ago and I may be mistaken but I think it was also an ebay purchase. Never in all my many years of wrenching have I seen an OE rod bend.

Re: crap aftermarket parts
you can see where its stretched it looks like regular unhardened steel . when it was new being painted black it was hard to tell . I guess the silver instead of gold nuts should have been the give away . lesson learned . hope others converting to power brakes check those rods that come with them

Re: crap aftermarket parts
i saw that post and i had already bent mine when i saw it . i just now have had the good weather to be able to get it out . there was something different about how the factory rod on the non power rod fit to the newer power booster bracketry that i couldn't use the factory rod i dont remember what it was though now . i have never seen a factory rod bend either .
