lowering shackles to lower 4" lifted springs??

Well, I found out why my '89 suburban rear end is up too high after my 3" fabtech up front and 2" lifted springs in the rear----

it was a 4" lifted spring in the rear!!!

Now, I can either get the shop to get me the correct 2" springs or I can put on 2" lowering shackles that I already have on the way from a guy on the board.

What is the downside of going with the lowering shackles on 4" springs? Any upside??

The shackles will change the pinion angle somewhat(I doubt that it would be enough to cause a problem). On the upside, its a bunch less work to swap shacles vs springs.... best of luck, crazyL

actually if i remember he is already having problems with vibration, so this actually may help the problem, i say worth a shot.

i can see you explaining this to someone asking about your lift, yeah i have 4" lift springs and 2" lowering shackles... they will be like WTF?

If you switch back to 2" leafs, it'll ride nicer than with 4" leafs and 2" lowering shackles.

Yes, I did have the driveline vibration and the ujoint at the rear is actually almost inline with the differential. I think actually lowering w/ shackles may actually make my problem worse b/c it will almost make that angle upward instead of downward (if that makes sense).

That angle is because of the shims in the 4" lifted springs. I'm thinking that 4" lifted springs probably have more of a shim, so maybe the 2" will actually solve my vibration problem.

And yes, I'm going to sound really cool... "Yeah, I've got a 4" lift on my burban.... well, it doesn't look like 4" because I lowered it 2"... yeah, I'm cool like that."
